GENERAL PURPOSE:Directs and supervises staff and resources to assure efficient and effective operations. The Director of Technology Infrastructure is responsible for overseeing the organization's technology infrastructure, including storage, AIX and Linux servers and Epic operational database and environment infrastructure. Includes oversight of the URMC ISD Epic ODB team and URMC ISD Enterprise Systems team and works closely with other IT and business stakeholders to ensure that the technology infrastructure meets the needs of the organization. The Director of Technology Infrastructure is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's technology infrastructure, as well as identifying and resolving issues and making recommendations for improvements. Manages the budget for technology infrastructure, communicates regularly with stakeholders, and ensures that the technology infrastructure is secure and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Additionally, is responsible for disaster recovery planning and availability management, as well as keeping up-to-date with emerging technologies and making recommendations for their adoption.Serves as member of Information Systems Division's (ISD) IT Leadership, with level of organizational impact that contributes to and operationalizes strategy over the midterm (2-3 yrs.).JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:DIRECTOR TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE OVERSIGHT:Primary accountable leader for storage, AIX and Linux server infrastructure, Epic operational database and Epic environments.Infrastructure design and implementation: Oversees the design and implementation of the organization's technology infrastructure, including hardware and software. This involves ensuring that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure.Infrastructure maintenance and support: Ensures that the organization's technology infrastructure is properly maintained and supported. Identifies and resolves issues, monitors performance, and makes recommendations for improvements.Team management: Manages a team of IT professionals, including storage administrators, system engineers, and Epic ODB database administrators. Sets goals, provides feedback and coaching, and ensures that team members have the resources and support they need to succeed.Budget management: Manages the budget for infrastructure technology, including hardware and software purchases, maintenance and support contracts, and staffing costs. Develops and manages a budget plan, tracks expenses, and makes recommendations for cost-saving measures.Stakeholder communication: Communicates regularly with stakeholders, including senior management, other department heads, and external vendors and partners. Provides regular status updates on infrastructure performance and security, makes recommendations for infrastructure improvements, and collaborates with other departments to ensure that infrastructure needs are met.Disaster recovery planning and availability management: Develops and implements disaster recovery and availability management service continuity plans for the technology infrastructure. This involves identifying potential risks and vulnerabilities, developing plans to minimize the impact of disruptions, and testing and updating plans on a regular basis.Ensuring regulatory compliance: Ensures that the technology infrastructure is in compliance with relevant regulations and standards, such as HIPAA, PCI, and GDPR. This involves staying up-to-date on regulatory requirements, implementing appropriate controls and procedures, and conducting regular audits and assessments.Keeping up-to-date with emerging technologies: Stays up-to-date with emerging technologies and makes recommendations for their adoption. This involves researching new technologies, assessing their potential benefits and risks, and making recommendations to senior management.Responsible for improving upon entire systems or processes using significant conceptualization, reasoning and interpretation skillsProblems faced are often complex and require extensive investigation and analysis.STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT:Creates and fosters relationships with relevant clinical and operational leadership.Works with IT Service Management teams to develop end-to-end change, incident and problem management processes. Ensures that all incidents are handled in a timely and appropriate manner and acts as a primary point of escalation during critical incidents.Communicates with stakeholders within and outside of own area and (typically) external to the department (including executive and senior leaders) depending on area.Negotiates and influences others to understand and accept area's existing or new practices, concepts and approaches.TEAM LEADERSHIP:Manages a job family or large team of Epic operational database administrators, storage engineers, Linux and AIX engineers and technicians in support of execution technology operations and projects across URMC, including affiliates across the region.Leads career development efforts for direct reports and the full Infrastructure Technology team. Provides coaching/mentoring to standardize best practices across all team activities.Champion for continuous improvement as demonstrated by personal example.Leads a high-performance Infrastructure Technology team, establishing clear goals, opportunities and career trajectories for team members assigned. Allocates and assigns personnel and technical resources to meet enterprise needs. Has hiring, firing, promotion, performance and reward authority in accordance with HR policies.BUDGET OVERSIGHT:Responsible for elements of an Operating or Capital Program BudgetPlans, manages, and participates in relevant ISD capital and operating budgeting processes. Maintains an ongoing awareness of project resources in relation to budget plan parameters and rate of spend for use in decision making and influence in assigned area and across ISD.GENERAL:Keeps abreast of industry standards, practices and new technologies to enhance key stakeholder satisfaction with Information Technology Services.Serves as an active member of the ISD IT Leaders team. Collaborates with team on new policy, interpretation, updates and the setting of new department wide initiatives. Makes recommendations on employee engagement, motivation, retention and growth of staff.Offers resources and assistance when possible to internal ISD Directors and Managers during projects, vacancies. Assists in the recruiting of designated positions within ISD.Subscribes to and models URMC ICARE and Meliora values.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Engineering, or another related field required.Master's degree preferred.7 years of relevant experience, including previous managerial experience required.or equivalent combination of education and experience required.Experience in an academic medical center or health-system preferred.Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization including with executives, physicians, and nurses, with the ability to discuss technical information in a meaningful way with persons of varying levels of expertise required.Ability to demonstrate objectivity, sensitivity, and a balanced perspective regarding employee concerns and organizational issues required.Ability to establish the strategic direction and business plans for sub-service line required.Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to create clear, concise and prompt communications required.Strong follow-through skills with ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously required.Knowledge of leadership and staff development practices and principles, coaching, talent management, strategies and programs preferred.Exhibits managerial courage.
