Job Summary

The Director - Strategic Planning will oversee and lead UCSF-wide, large-scale initiatives and serve as a senior advisor to the AVC. Examples of initiatives include new transit pass programs for all employees and students, new parking initiatives, forming governance models that engage the entire UCSF community, and establishing proactive relations with UCSF Health, student government, and others to ensure CLS is meeting their unique needs. Partner with the Academic Senate on their initiatives, especially the Committee on Faculty Welfare, and other new strategies and programs that have UCSF-wide impact without prior precedence to follow. The Director will handle major projects on behalf of the AVC, present in front of high-level audiences, and be accountable for engaging the entire UCSF community in major programs. The Director will model co-creation strategies and governance to maximize effective implementation and acceptance of new programs and services. The Director will need to evaluate the effectiveness of new programs and adjust strategies when necessary.***NOTE: This is a hybrid role; 4 days onsite.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $155,500 - $244,400 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

Campus Life Services consists of 11 departments that form a division of UCSF Finance and Administration (FAS). These diverse departments are Arts & Events, Childcare, Conference Services, Documents & Media, Facilities & Utilities, Fitness & Recreation, Housing, Marketing by CLS, Retail Services, Sustainability, and Transportation. With over 800 team members and budgets totaling over $200 million, Campus Life Services delivers best-in-class auxiliary and facilities services to run the UCSF enterprise. The scope and challenges of the division are complex and robust given the variety of services managed and the expectation that all 11 organizations are responsive to student, faculty, staff, and patient needs. A high degree of innovation and customer service and program excellence is always the overarching aim.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • 10-15 relevant progressive years of experience.
  • Ten years of experience supporting a high-level executive(s).
  • Ten years of strategic project development, planning, implementation, governance, and evaluation.
  • Financial analysis and reporting techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Advanced skills in short- and long-range planning, program and project management, facilitation and collaboration.
  • Sound strategic thinking and consulting skills in guiding the organization toward workable strategies and solutions.
  • Proven ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision.
  • Advanced ability to coach, facilitate and influence people at all levels.
  • Advanced ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of staff and members of the community.
  • UC or other large organization experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
  • UCSF experience, especially in implementing new programs and services.
