This position will come with an endowed Professorship and the opportunity to lead one of the most comprehensive sickle cell teams in the country.Johns Hopkins is a premier leader in the fight against sickle cell disease. We started with a vision to help our local, underserved Baltimore community, and over decades, we have extended our reach to improve the lives of patients with sickle cell disease throughout the United States. We have long been at the forefront of advocacy and research in sickle cell disease, having led the first studies of hydroxyurea, developing the infusion center model for treatment of pain, and pioneering a haplo-identical match bone marrow protocol for the cure of sickle cell disease. Through our commitment, our Center now serves as the national model for comprehensive sickle cell care.The Johns Hopkins Sickle Cell Center for Adults offers one of the most robust multi-disciplinary teams in the country. The Center currently provides care to over 700 patients with a clinical infrastructure that includes a young-adult clinic physician lead, 6 advanced practice providers, 2 psychiatrists, a social worker, a case manager, and a community health worker. This integrated team runs an inpatient consult service, outpatient clinics, a young-adult clinic, and a 7-day/week infusion center. In addition, the Johns Hopkins Sickle Cell Center collaborates with experts across Johns Hopkins disciplines, including urology, neurology, ophthalmology, genetics, psychiatry, maternal-fetal medicine, and bone marrow transplant.The Director will have the opportunity to lead this comprehensive team and expand the clinical and research mission. As a reflection of Johns Hopkins' commitment to our sickle cell center and community, this position will come with an Endowed Professorship, protected time for oversight of the program, and our continued dedication to support the success of the program.The Johns Hopkins Sickle Cell Center for Adults resides within the Division of Hematology. As one of the few remaining free-standing non-malignant hematology programs in the country, the Johns Hopkins Division of Hematology offers a unique environment for interested candidates to work with stellar hematology faculty and fellows with a passion for classical hematology.
