Position SummaryThis position is responsible for directing, coordinating, and controlling the operation of the Laboratory Department.Primary Position Responsibilities1.Fiscally responsible for all areas of the department which includes creating, implementing and monitoring all budgets.2.Oversees all personnel management including hiring, performance evaluations and disciplinary action when necessary3.Takes personal responsibility for formulating, executing, and evaluating new ideas to improve performance, service, and quality and to adapt to changes in laboratory science and healthcare.4.Oversees adherence to all federal, state, local, Joint Commission and College of American Pathology rules, regulations, and standards related to the practice of laboratory science. Incorporates any new or changing conditions immediately and effectively.5.Monitors and mentors supervisors and staff in all areas of laboratory science, human resource issues, patient satisfaction, national patient safety goals, continuing education, and other appropriate areas.Work Contact Group (Internal/External)Medical staff, outside physicians, hospital directors and staff, patients, families, studentsReporting RelationshipsReports to (position):Senior Vice President, OperationsSupervises (position(s):Directly: Laboratory SupervisorsIndirectly: All staff in the Laboratory DepartmentQualificationsMinimum Education:Required:Bachelor's Degree in Medical TechnologyPreferred:Master's Degree in Hospital Management or related fieldMinimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation):Required:Minimum of three years supervisory/management experience in Laboratory SciencePreferred:NoneLicense, Registry or Certification:Required:ASCP Registry in Medical TechnologyPreferred:NoneKnowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:Required:NonePreferred:None
