Reporting to the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) Director, the Director (non-tenure track clinical faculty), LIC Academics collaborates with the LIC director, associate dean for medical education, and school of medicine faculty, and under the authority of the School of Medicine Curriculum Committee and college of medicine leadership, to lead the development, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of the longitudinal academic sessions integrated each week during Phase 2 of the curriculum, including direction of the one-week transition to clerkships course.Key Responsibilities:

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Work collaboratively with the LIC Director, associate dean for medical education, college of medicine faculty and staff to design, deliver, and evaluate the LIC academics curriculum.

  • Engage in continuous quality improvement under the guidance of the Curriculum Committee and Office of Assessment, Quality Improvement, and Accreditation.

  • Assist with educational activities in the LIC in collaboration with the LIC Director as needed (e.g., participation in grading committees, preparation and review of clerkship syllabi, and LIC communications).

Curriculum Development and Delivery:

  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate weekly academic sessions in the longitudinal integrated clerkship (LIC).

  • Define session objectives and content for LIC based on clerkship objectives and linked to the SOM clerkship and educational program objectives.

  • Review and coordinate integration and application of foundational science concepts in LIC academic sessions.

  • Utilize active and learner-centered methods to optimize engagement and learning outcomes.

  • Plan and coordinate the schedule for academic sessions.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Determine appropriate assessment of student performance in the LIC academic sessions to ensure fulfillment of appropriate clerkship learning objectives.

  • Ensure required electronic formative and summative evaluations are completed on the established timeline.

  • Review and respond to evaluations in collaboration with the LIC Director.

Faculty Development:

  • Orient and prepare faculty members participating in academic sessions and assess the quality of teaching.

  • Assist individual faculty members with professional development regarding teaching and involve members of the department or administration to assist faculty in performance improvement as needed.

Management and Coordination:

  • Manage academic materials and monitor their delivery (e.g., in the learning management system) in collaboration with the LIC Director and LIC team.

  • Collaborate with the Office of Medical Education to provide session learning objectives linked to course objectives as requested for curriculum mapping.

Specific Responsibilities for Transition to Clerkships One-Week Course:

  • Serve as the director for the one-week course, Transition to Clerkships.

  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate the curriculum specifically tailored for the transition to clerkships.

  • Define and implement session objectives and content to ensure alignment with overall clerkship objectives.

  • Coordinate with faculty to ensure the course meets the needs of students transitioning to clerkships.

  • Assess student readiness for clerkships and provide feedback to improve their transition experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

· Medical Licensure in the State of Texas

· Medical degree from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic college of medicine

· Experience in graduated medical education or medical student advising

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience with holistic student support practices

· Experience in residency program leadership and resident selection

· Knowledge of the AAMC Careers in Medicine and other career advising best practices

· Experience with LCME accreditation and continuous quality improvement
