The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.Position SummaryReporting to the Executive Director of Development, the Director, Major Gifts and Planned Giving is responsible for a fluid portfolio of individuals with the capacity of making gifts in the six to seven figure range. The incumbent is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing major and planned gifts and meeting the fundraising goals and objectives established for the school. S/he will work closely and collaboratively with the entire Development, Alumni Relations, and Communications team to maximize fundraising opportunities. The incumbent will be part of an experienced and talented development team challenged with meeting or exceeding the School's annual goals and will act as adviser to other frontline fundraisers, including major gift officers, annual fund and reunion giving officers.Responsibilities Identifies, cultivates, manages, and solicits from a defined portfolio of 115-135 high-net-worth prospects in NYC and regionally, including the mid-Atlantic and East Coast. Responsible for a minimum of 75-85 face-to-face meetings with prospects annually and meeting with roughly 50 percent of the individual portfolio; solicitation of 30 major gift asks, 5-10 planned giving asks, and 15 Annual Fund leadership gift asks. 75%Works closely with the Executive Director, Associate Dean, and Dean to develop strategies for cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts from high net worth major and planned giving individuals and to help identify new funding opportunities, including current, endowment, and other restricted funding. Acts as an adviser to other frontline fundraisers. 10%Crafts tailored proposals for funding; writes briefing papers and solicitation strategies for Executive Director and Deans. 10%Identifies potential volunteers for the Law School planned giving; annual fund; reunions; Board of Visitors; Alumni/ae Association; other boards as necessary. 2.5%Coordinates fundraising activities within assigned regional areas of responsibility. 2.5%Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree required. A minimum of 5-7 years related experience in a competitive challenging work environment preferred.Must have demonstrated success in achieving frontline fundraising goals and managing high-level donor relationships. The Law School will be launching a multi-year multi-purpose campaign. Experience and successful fundraising in a campaign environment are highly desirable.Possess a proven ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling manner is essential. The capacity to clearly comprehend and communicate the Law School's mission and ongoing initiatives is required.Flexibility and the demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills necessary.Must be creative, persuasive and tactful. Must have the ability to both lead and work in a team environment.The ability to work successfully with skilled professionals in the legal, academic and corporate communities is essential.This position requires evening and weekend work and travel, including international, as necessary.Must be able to work with diverse constituencies and support an inclusive work environment.
