Job DescriptionDepartment of Medical EducationDirector of Student Affairs and Engagement, Office for Student AffairsThe Director of Student Affairs and Engagement (DSAE), reports directly to the Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs (SADSA) and provides leadership and administration for the Office of Student Affairs. The DSAE is responsible for providing leadership, developing strategies and programs to enhance the overall student experience, making student affairs the hub for campus engagement and student connection. These programs include new student orientation, event planning to commemorate student milestones, wellness, advising, career counseling and extracurricular student activities. The DSAE works in concert with the SADSA to foster a vibrant institutional culture and climate that supports the professional and personal growth of students. The individual will work closely with colleagues who oversee the management of all medical education program curricula and other ISMMS faculty and staff, to influence and foster a student centric experience.Responsibilities
- In partnership with the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs, design, implement and monitor strategic goals and policies that model an atmosphere of respect, compassion, collective engagement, inclusive excellence, accountability and personal growth in an integrated holistic student affairs unit.
- Develop and implement regular evaluation processes to assess effectiveness of student and department operations; reports data to support accreditation and other continuous quality improvement program evaluation processes for the school of medicine.
- Oversee implementation of new software solutions and manage existing products.
- Coordinate and maintain student affairs policies, procedures and training documents (e.g. faculty advising manual) and lead the effort to update student-facing information systems (i.e. student handbook, learning management system)
- Collaborate with Associate Dean for Student Wellbeing and Directors of Career Planning and Academic Excellence to plan and execute academic support, personal wellness, professional identity, career development programing to enhance the student experience.
- Supervise and develop staff in each of the divisional areas, including student activities and events, wellness, academic and career advising, mentoring programs and the learning community program.
- Cultivate collaborative relationships with ISMMS students, faculty, staff, administrators and other departments to sustain a culture that supports an inclusive student experience.
- Manage and support the planning and execution of Student Affairs Learning Communities and supervision of Student Advisors.
- Oversee the planning and execution of student events including Gold Humanism Honor Society induction, student orientation, white coat ceremony, match day.
- Serve as a primary source for students/student representatives to provide a participatory forum for students to voice issues and provide ongoing feedback and engagement (i.e. Class representatives, Class Chats, Town Halls).
- Coordinate the production of all student affairs communication to include e-newsletters, calendars of activities, websites, and social media.
- Nurture a supportive, safe and healthy environment for students, including the participation in planning for and ensuring access to student health services, student counseling and mental health services, anti-harassment training and support, diversity training.
- Monitor and report regional, national and international trends in medical education related to student affairs in addition to participation and support of educational research and scholarship pertaining to student affairs.
- In collaboration with the SADSA, Dean for Medical Education and other members of the school's learning community, facilitate skill development for faculty in the area of student affairs.
- Serve as a point of contact for student matters and concerns, including crisis intervention or response to critical incidents following proper protocols and triage.
- Provide afternoon, evening, or weekend hours as necessary.

Compensation StatementThe Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $86,772.00 - $130,159.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need.
