Job Description:

The Director of the Office of Accessible Education (OAE) oversees the work of ensuring that all students have equitable access to the full scope of educational, living, and dining opportunities available at Williams College. The Director's primary role will be education, advocacy, and outreach to the College community; they give voice to the mission and vision of OAE, and lead efforts to evolve the College culture toward a mindset of universal accessibility. The Director will be the primary relationship and trust builder with campus partners and stakeholders, including faculty, administration, staff, and students. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Administration, Finance, and Strategy in the Office of the Dean of the College, the Director of the Office of Accessible Education (OAE) will be the leader in OAE's efforts around outreach and education to the college community. This will include working with faculty, staff, students, and others to raise awareness of the importance of accessibility and academic support for all students, and promoting a college culture that embraces universal accessibility. The Director will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Office of Accessible Education, including budget development and oversight and direct supervision of the Associate Director (who is the primary point of contact for students and student accommodations); indirect supervision of the Coordinator of Accessibility Services and other temporary and student staff; and policy development and implementation. The Director will be OAE's point person for collaboration with campus partners on programming, facilities, committee service, and other initiatives that advance accessibility at the college. Qualifications:

  • Master's degree and 5 or more years of relevant experience required; equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will also be considered
  • Knowledge of federal laws regarding post-secondary education and disabilities, including the ADA, its 2008 amendments (ADAAA), and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and experience in the creation of policies complying with federal and state regulations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effectiveness in supporting a diverse student body, including those for whom considering the possibility of a disability may be particularly difficult due to cultural background or experience with bias or discrimination
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required, including an ability to communicate complex ideas and information to audiences with different levels of experience and understanding (e.g., faculty, administration, staff, and students)
  • Leadership experience, ideally in a college or university setting, including staff supervision, budget development and management, effective time management, and prioritization of competing initiatives and projects.
Remote work arrangements may be available up to one day per week during the academic year and two days per week during the summer with approval for employees based in NY, MA, CT, or VT; subject to review and revision as policy evolves.
