Purpose and Job Summary

This role will provide technical and financial GAAP reporting expertise and oversight of the Corporate and Fund Accounting teams at Boston Financial (BF).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees the accounting operations for both the fund and corporate reporting platforms, including technical accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting in support of our growth.
  • Supports the Corporate Accounting team during the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close bringing expertise in transactional accounting and GAAP financial reporting.
  • Supports the Fund Accounting team in quarterly and annual accounting, financial and tax reporting for 170+ low-income housing tax credit Funds. Collaborates with the Fund Management team to ensure all Fund financial statements are consistently delivered on time to the Fund investors.
  • Partners with the Financial Planning & Analysis team to prepare monthly management reporting to the CEO and BF leadership team.
  • Primary contact for the ORIX Internal Audit Team (“IA”) related to designing, developing, monitoring, and testing business processes under Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 (SOX). Key areas of focus include consolidation and revenue recognition analyses.
  • Serves as the head of the BF SOX Committee. Primary responsibilities include facilitating the maintenance of internal control documentation, overseeing testing procedures performed by IA and reviewing proposed remediation activities.
  • Oversees proper accounting treatment of all transactions in accordance with GAAP; Includes researching accounting requirements and implications for complex transactions.
  • Primary liaison with the ORIX Chief Financial Officer in technical accounting matters such as consolidation and revenue recognition analyses.
  • Primary relationship owner for the corporate accounting external auditors, KPMG and multiple fund external auditors.
  • Partners and provides support on technical accounting matters related to new business activities.
  • Provides leadership and vision for scaling the fund and corporate reporting platform infrastructure to keep up with the demands of the business.

  • Addresses performance issues or concerns timely, ensures appropriate documentation is maintained, and elevates issues to Human Resources, Legal and/or others where appropriate.
  • Identifies and defines metrics and measures to monitor team and individual progress; Evaluates performance opportunities and celebrates successes.
  • Travel Requirements – less than 10%. Other projects and duties as assigned.
  • Contacts

    This position has frequent contact with all levels of employees and management. In addition, this role may interact with outside business partners, vendors, consultants, and other office visitors.

    Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or related discipline required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, preferred.
  • 10+ years' progressive accounting experience in public accounting or similar environment.
  • Experience in multi-family real estate, preferred.
  • Experience in successfully scaling people, processes, and systems to support company evolution and growth.
  • Proven track record in leading teams and managing through change effectively.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills required.
