Overview and Responsibilities:
Job Summary:
The Director of Advising and Academic Support develops and provides support for undergraduate students in their journey to reaching their academic and career goals. In addition, this position serves on the New Student Experience team, supporting the seamless transition of undergraduate students to the Winona Campus. The Director of Advising and Academic Support will supervise two full time positions. As a member of the Student Success Center, the right person for this position is collaborative, inclusive, and passionate for mission based institutions and has the necessary skills to be successful.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the Early Alert Intervention System; identifying, researching, and responding to student alert submissions from faculty and staff across campus; applying various intervention strategies to improve students academic well-being and meticulously documenting processes
- Advise students about academic and graduation requirements, departmental, collegiate, and University policies and procedures, and selection and registration of courses.
- Oversee the Academic Success Program in collaboration with the Coordinator
- Assist with student advising programming
- Develop and maintain advising materials for faculty, staff and students
- Serve as primary adviser for incoming transfer students and undecided students
- Monitor and intervene with students on the non-registered student report and the part time student report
- Collaborate with faculty to provide training for new faculty advisers
- Lead registration during New Student Orientation and Registration (NSOR)
- Monitor and respond to emails sent to the advising email address
- Assist with departmental programs, such as Countdown to College, New Student Orientation, Welcome Weekend, First Five Weeks, and First Generation Initiative programming
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge about academic program requirements, admissions procedures, payment and withdrawal deadlines, and graduation requirements
- Develop new advising programming and resources based upon the needs of the community
- Perform other duties as assigned
Essential Skills and Functions:
- Strong problem solving and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task and to prioritize critical tasks in a fast-paced work environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with common higher educational databases and software, specifically Canvas, CAMs, Jenzabar, and WordPress
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, & inclusion
Qualifications:
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Master's degree required. Education, Student Affairs, College Personnel, Higher Education, or any related field
- Experience working in a service-oriented environment, teaching or university setting
- 2-3 years of advising experience
