Job Type Full-timeDescriptionThe Director of Arts and Enrichment is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive arts and enrichment program for Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC) residents. This role ensures that programs are enriching, inclusive, and aligned with the community's interests and needs. The director will foster an environment that encourages creative expression, lifelong learning, and social interaction to enhance residents' quality of life. When applicable, the Director of Arts and Enrichment will provide supervision to Art and Enrichment team members. Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree in Arts Administration, Education, Gerontology, Hospitality, or a related field. Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in arts programming, education, or a similar role, with at least 2 years in a leadership position. Experience working with older adults is highly desirable. Skills: Strong organizational and project management skills. Detail oriented. Have A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to anticipate needs and challenges. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Creativity in designing engaging and meaningful programming. Proficiency in budget management, financial planning, and resource allocation. Ability to build partnerships and represent VMRC with external organizations to recruit practical arts and educational performers and guest speakers. Strong leadership and team management capabilities. o Ability to foster a culture of inclusivity and respect. • Work Environment: This role will require evening and weekend hours to support programming. The Director will work in an office across the VMRC campus and will provide leadership during off-campus outings and events. A. Program Development and Management:1. Responsible for the design, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive schedule of events and programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of residents, including:a. A wide range of arts, music, literature, and educational initiatives (on and off campus)b. Cultural and social programs (on and off campus)c. (8) dimensions of wellness initiatives (on and off campus) in partnership with the greater Wellness and Enrichment team and other campus departments.2. Collaborate with residents and staff to plan events, workshops, lectures, and performances.3. Schedule and coordinate classes, guest instructors, and partnerships with local artists, performers, and educators.4. Ensure all events and programs adhere to health, safety, and regulatory requirements.5. Foster partnerships with local organizations, artists, and educators to bring enriching experiences to the community.6. Regularly evaluates program effectiveness through feedback and participation metrics, adjusting offerings to maximize engagement.7. Oversight and responsibility of all art exhibitions on campus, including:a. The Resident Art Show.b. The Park Gables Art Gallery space (minimally quarterly). This includes partnerships with the VMRC Juried Art Exhibition and the Shenandoah Valley Watercolor Society.c. Outdoor shows.8. Oversight and responsibility of the Shenandoah Valley Lyceum Endowment Program:a. Serves as the chairperson of the Shenandoah Valley Lyceum Committee.b. Plan and coordinate the Shenandoah Valley Lyceum annual event calendar.c. Plans and coordinates the marketing process with the Marketing team to advertise for the annual program.d. Responsible for leading the recruitment process of this committee.B. Community Engagement and Partnerships:1. Build and maintain relationships with local arts organizations, educational institutions, and community partners.2. Coordinate visits and performances by external artists, musicians, and educators.3. Act as a liaison between VMRC and local cultural or educational entities.4. Promotes education and growth opportunities available to residents at local universities.C. Budgeting and Resource Management:1. Develop and manage the annual budget for arts and enrichment programs, ensuring effective use of resources.2. Oversee the procurement of materials and resources necessary for programming.3. Seek opportunities for sponsorships, grants, and partnerships to enhance program offerings.4. Negotiate with vendors and service providers for cost-effective program solutions.D. Resident Interaction and Support:1. Develop and maintain strong relationships with residents to understand their interests and needs and create programs that reflect their feedback.2. Implement an interest survey every 18-24 months.3. Provide support and guidance for resident-led initiatives and programs.4. Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment by tailoring programs and events to accommodate varying levels of physicaland cognitive abilities as well as presenting a positive and friendly attitude.5. Encourage resident participation and advocate for resident well-being.E. Operational Oversight and Administrative Duties:1. Responsible for all Arts and Enrichment program and event planning details to include:a. Room set up, tear down.b. AV needs, if applicable, or scheduling IT support for events.c. Catering needs, if applicable.d. Financial payment if applicable.2. Provides leadership, oversight, development, and implementation of the monthly all-campus newsletter, The Junction:a. Collaborating with WE administrative support and team members to create, edit, and publish the document.b. Partners with other VMRC stakeholders to ensure their publication needs are included.3. Provides oversight and responsibility for accurate and timely publicity of events and programs through bulletin boards, K4, Mailings, and Blink employee social media.4. Partners with the Marketing and Communications team to identify free and paid advertising opportunities for events open to the public.5. Maintain detailed records of program participation, expenses, feedback, and evaluations for continuous improvement.6. Prepare reports and updates for community leadership.7. Collaborate with the WE service line and other departments, such as dining and facilities, to coordinate seamless event execution.8. Stay informed of trends and developments in arts, culture, and senior living to enhance program offerings.F. Supervision and Team Management1. Lead, mentor, and manage the Arts and Enrichment team, including event manager, volunteers, and support staff, ensuring alignment with the community's goals and department objectives.2. Provides training and support to staff and volunteers to maintain high-quality programming standards.3. Manages the delegation of department responsibilities fairly and equitably among self and team.4. Collaborate with the Life Enrichment team to make appropriate events open for Supportive Living Residents.a. Prepare and distribute a monthly trips and events list for the LE Team.b. Attending monthly Life Enrichment Planning meetings.G. Leadership1. Builds Effective Relationshipsa. Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis position regularly requires frequent work in an office setting, in clinical settings, in a setting delivering presentations to staff, as well as traveling to and from specific destinations on campus (schedule and work responsibilities could vary based on programs, events, emergencies, inclement weather, etc.). This role will require evening and weekend hours to support programming.D. Supervisor ResponsibilityThis position is assigned supervisory responsibilities for direct reports and does have the ability to determine who can access Confidential Information.E.
