Summary

Working closely with firm leadership, the Director of Associate Recruitment & Development will oversee all aspects of the firms legal professional development and associate attorney recruiting functions, and will provide strategic direction, coaching, mentoring and indirect supervision to the firms associate attorneys.

Essential Functions

  • Provide strategic advice to the Firm on the development of attorneys and hiring policies to enable the Firm to recruit and retain the most talented lawyers.
  • Develop and manage policies and programs regarding legal recruiting, retention, diversity, and professional development; ensuring all policies and programs are integrated and aligned to support the Firms strategic agenda.
  • Serve as the Firms point person for all DEI-related initiatives and activities.
  • Create a vision for training and mentoring programs essential for legal professionals and oversee implementation of same.
  • Oversee matters related to evaluation systems for lawyers.
  • Respond to attorney employment matters requiring discipline, appraisal, performance improvement, and termination.
  • Participate in strategy around associate compensation and bonus process and programs.
  • Oversee and implement budgets for the recruiting and professional development departments.
  • Oversee and implement associate professional development process.
  • Participate as a senior member of the firms management, which currently includes an ex-officio role on the Diversity Committee and oversight of the Associate Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the firms HRIS and talent/performance management systems.

Supervisory Role

This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Professional Development & Recruiting Supervisor and Assistant, and the indirect supervision of all associate attorneys.

Work Environment

This position requires the employee to work in a professional office environment with some ability to work from home. Because the employee will handle sensitive firm and client information, the employee must work from a home office and not a public location during any remote periods. The employee will routinely use standard office equipment.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, benefit eligible position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position frequently requires long hours and weekend work.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelors degree.

10 years of progressively responsible work experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Work experience in a law firm, law school, or professional services environment.
