Overview:

The primary functions of the Director of Behavioral Health is to plan, organize, and manage behavioral health services, and to ensure the quality of services provided to patients. The Director of Behavioral Health works collaboratively with administrative, clinical, and support staff to expand the number of patients served and the variety of services offered, to provide clinical training and supervision for behavioral health clinicians, and to provide direct services to patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists in the supervision of Behavioral Health Staff;
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises the performance and productivity of behavioral health staff and, as needed, supervises clinical interns;
  • Facilitates behavioral health admissions and discharges, evaluates utilization of services, and addresses areas for improvement;
  • Develops and maintains contemporary, evidence-based, behavioral health assessment, consultation, treatment, and behavioral and social intervention programs;
  • Develops and implements a system to monitor and continuously improve the quality of behavioral health services;
  • Collaborates with administration in long-range planning for behavioral health services and facilitates collaborative care across clinical disciplines;
  • Promotes behavioral health services through participation in community education and outreach efforts, attends local, regional, and national conferences as a representative of the Health center, and works with the Outreach Coordinator on initiatives for program development and growth;
  • Cultivates professional relationships with other community providers to establish new referrals sources and to expand existing referral sources;
  • Participates in QA/RM and oversees COGNOS reporting on Behavioral Health measures;
  • Develops and facilitates systems and resources for crisis management;
  • Collaborates with Clinical Nurse Manager, Primary Care Physicians, and CMO to integrate behavioral health services with primary care;
  • Develops workflows and reviews records (PEER);
  • Oversees behavioral care management;
  • Works closely with psychiatrists to develop and enhance screening tools and workflows to ensure referrals for assessment and therapeutic services, when needed;
  • Works collaboratively with Practice Manager;
  • Provides comprehensive case management services by working collaboratively with primary care teams and following up with patient specific needs;
  • Manages and triages all in-house behavioral health referrals, track outcomes of internal and external referrals, provide assistance when patients and/or providers encounter barriers;
  • Creates, analyzes, interprets, and presents data reports aimed at reviewing trends in case management tracking, referral tracking, and patient experience;
  • Creates and develops internal training manual, facilitate learning, provide one-on-one training to on-boarding staff and monitor and report outcomes;
  • Provides education and manage relationships with parents of patients;
  • Manages an active patient caseload with 65% productivity;
  • Performs bio-psycho-social intake and psychiatric interview for all new behavioral health patients;
  • Performs related duties, as required.
Qualifications:
  • PhD, PsyD/and or LCSW in Clinical Psychology/School Psychology, Current license in State of New York.
  • Minimum 5 years professional clinical practice in related field within the clinical setting including evaluation and treatment application (may include specialty internship and post-doctoral training).
  • Familiarity serving persons with intellectual & developmental disabilities desirable.
  • Previous FQHC experience a plus.
  • Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
