Director of Beverage, Continental Events GroupDepartment: Event Labor 800007Employment Type: Full TimeLocation: EventsReporting To: Bonnie PeckDescriptionThe Director of Beverage, a key player in enhancing the guest experience and driving profitability, oversees all beverage operations within the Events group. This role involves managing beverage programs, developing new beverage offerings, ensuring quality control, leading a team of beverage staff, and building relationships with outside vendors. The Director of Beverage will collaborate with various departments to enhance the guest experience and drive profitability through strategic beverage sales and management.Key ResponsibilitiesDaily Operations:
  • Develop and implement the beverage program's strategic vision and goals
  • Create and manage the beverage menus, including cocktails, wines, beers, and non-alcoholic options
  • Stay current with industry trends and incorporate innovative concepts into the beverage offerings to upsell
  • Monitor beverage quality and ensure that all drinks are prepared according to established recipes and standards
  • Responsible for updating cost for accurate pricing needs
  • Address any issues related to taste, presentation, or consistency promptly and effectively
  • Educate staff on product knowledge and proper pouring techniques
  • Interact with clients to solicit feedback and ensure satisfaction with beverage offerings
  • Work in the field with Senior Bar Leads when needed. Participate in Line-up to educate staff on Bar Packages, Signature Drinks, and Dinner Wines
  • Coordinate beverage orders and execution strategies for events, including batching, equipment, and presentation needs
  • Conduct in-the-field training when applicable
  • Oversee the sourcing and selection of beverage products, ensuring quality and consistency
Management:
  • Establish and maintain relationships with beverage suppliers and distributors
  • Negotiate contracts to ensure the availability of high-quality products
  • Build strong relationships with local mixologists and wine sommeliers
  • Foster a positive work environment and provide ongoing training and development opportunities for the team
  • Recruit, train, and manage beverage staff, including bartenders and servers
  • Address and resolve any guest concerns or feedback related to beverage service
  • Work closely with the culinary team to create complementary food and beverage pairings
  • Collaborate with marketing to develop promotions and events related to beverage offerings
  • Collaborate with sales to update menus to introduce new products and seasonal offerings, signature drink recipe ingredients
  • Conduct in-person training sessions for beverage staff to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to provide excellent service
  • TIPS Instructure to relay responsible alcohol service
  • Comply with relevant health, safety, and alcohol service regulations
  • Implement and enforce policies related to responsible beverage service
Financial Impact:
  • Monitor and analyze beverage sales and adjust strategies to meet financial targets
  • Control costs through creative use of existing inventory and proper portioning
  • Develop and manage the beverage department's budget, including cost control and forecasting
  • Increase revenue of beverage packages during the sales process
  • Create efficiencies both in the field at the warehouse on product distribution and return product
#CONALBSkills, Knowledge and ExpertiseProven experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a managerial capacity.In-depth knowledge of beverage products, including wine, spirits, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks.Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and train staff effectively.Excellent customer service skills and a focus on delivering a memorable guest experience.Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.Familiarity with relevant health and safety regulations and best practices.Education:A bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business administration, or a related field is preferred.Certification in Beverage Management or sommelier training is a plus.Tips Instructor Certification is a plusWorking Conditions:The role typically requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays, as beverage service is a critical component of hospitality operations.
