Job Description:
The Director of Career and Calling at a Greenville University plays a vital role in guiding students to discover their vocational purpose in alignment with their faith. This position oversees career services, helps students explore career paths, and provides resources for internships, job placement, and graduate school opportunities. The director encourages students to integrate their spiritual values with their professional aspirations, offering mentorship and support to foster both personal and professional growth. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Development, this a full-time, on-site, 12-month position. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Through workshops, vocational counseling, and partnerships, equip students to pursue careers and graduate school. Serves as the primary liaison between the university, its students and alumni, and potential employers.
  • Develops new contacts with external organizations for the purpose of expanding internship and employment opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Provide strategy and oversight of the career and calling center
  • Provides career advising expertise to students and alumni regarding the job-search process, interviewing, resume, and letter writing, and all other facets of career planning. Conducts workshops, seminars, job fairs as needed.
  • Coordinate with service projects, practicum, and internships with students and faculty.
  • Supports cross-departmental collaborations especially with Student Success, Residence Life, Spiritual Formation, International Student Affairs, Admissions, Student Employment, faculty, and/or student organizations.
  • Provide tools (eg career and personality assessments) related to career coaching and calling to Greenville students.
  • Create, implement, and assess an engagement plan for creating a sense of student belonging through career planning.
RequirementsRequired and Desired Skills and Traits
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Master's degree in a discipline directly related to staffing, employment, career development and planning, or other human resources concern. Academic preparation in a student counseling discipline will be considered if supported by directly-related employer college relations, recruitment, or staffing experience.
  • At least three years of professional experience in university/college setting or in business in a human resources or training and development function is required. Full-time experience on a college/university student services staff is preferred. Important knowledge and capabilities necessary include career counseling techniques, knowledge of job trends and career development skills, effective public relations and networking abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively engage with faculty, staff, students, and external constituents
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement assigned responsibilities, and to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Spiritual maturity as a Christ follower
  • Abilities to work with a diverse student population
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion
  • Software skills required, Slate preferred.
