The Director of Career Development will provide programming and services to complement the mission and goals of Cheyney University in order to enhance the professional development of students and alumni. The department's services will be delivered in a professional manner and in concert with the ethical standards established by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), Cheyney University, and the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
The Director is responsible for establishing and maintaining high departmental standards for the integrity of relationships with all Cheyney University stakeholders. This position is funded in part by the Title III Grant and is in the SCUPA (SUA3) bargaining unit.
The Director of Career Development provides professional leadership and directs and administers the following functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Supports and abides by all institutional, state, and federal rules, regulations, and guidelines, and serves as a role model for students.
* Carries out the mission of the career services office and establishes office policies and procedures.
* Provides career planning assistance through appointments with individuals, online assistance, and regularly scheduled workshops with groups.
* Establishes and maintains effective and cooperative working relationships with students, alumni, faculty, staff across the division, the state system, employers, and the public.
* Plans and implements job fairs and on-campus recruiting events.
* Distributes information on internships, summer jobs, and local part-time jobs.
* Collect and analyze data through survey instruments, assessments, and evaluations and prepare annual reports and other reports that incorporate data relevant to career planning and placement of students and alumni as requested.
* Counsel students about graduate school choices, admission, and general financial aid.
* Maintains the organization, updating, and distribution of credential files. Educates students on credential file procedures.
* Maintains online recruitment system, online resources, and works closely with webmaster to maintain/update career services web site to enhance student and employer access.
* Promotes office to students, alumni, and employers through a variety of marketing efforts.
* Assists in the development of a budget, supervises expenditures, and maintains fiscal responsibility.
* Attends all division staff meetings and training events. Must attend Title III meetings and complete and submit all monthly and quarterly reports.
* Supervises student workers and other support staff, as necessary.
* Collects & analyzes student outcomes data.
* Manage the Job Location & Development program
* Track required data for FSA reporting about the Job Location & Development program
* Fulfills other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships & Career Pathways.
Minimum Qualifications: Selection Criteria: Minimum Education, Training, and Experience:
A master's degree, three years of experience in career services, recruitment, or placement, and at least one year of supervisory experience are required. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 3-5 years' experience in a Career Services role in Higher Education
Knowledge & Skills, Abilities:
* Knowledge of recruiting, job placement and/or career advising techniques and certification tests used for career assessment
* Excellent presentation skills.
* Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Knowledge of tools used for student interest and personality type and the ability to interpret results of such tools to assist students in making sound decisions
* Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
* Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working conditions are in an office environment that is generally free from hazards, well-lit and ventilated. This is an exempt position. Salary is paid on an agreed amount for the whole job, regardless of the amount of time and effort required to complete the work
