With over 300 full-time employees and over 1200 student workers, the Division supports Pirate success through environments that enhance student development, engagement, belonging, well-being, and career readiness. The Division strives to be a national leader in developing student experiences that positively transform lives and communities through work that makes students the focal point of our services, policies, and programming; creates a community where all feel safe, included, and welcomed; treats each other with dignity and civility, and recognizes every individual has rights, ideas, and beliefs; maintains open and honest interactions, and delivers high-quality programming, services, and resources through continuous reflection and improvement.Job Duties:This position reports directly to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. The Director of Career Services is responsible for overseeing the development and execution of a comprehensive career services program that supports the professional readiness and success of undergraduate and graduate students. The Director will lead a team of career services professionals to provide a wide range of services, including career counseling/development, job search support, internship placement, employer relations, and professional development opportunities. The Director will work closely with faculty, staff, alumni, employers, and external partners to ensure that students are prepared for the workforce as well as obtaining the skills and abilities to explore their chosen fields.Essential Job Functions (60%):
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive career services strategy that aligns with the university's mission, academic programs, and student success goals.
  • Set long-term objectives, monitor progress, and regularly assess program effectiveness in meeting student and employer needs.
  • Serve as the primary advocate for career services at the division and institutional level, ensuring that career readiness is integrated into the student experience across campus.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and professional development opportunities to a team of career counselors, career advisors, employer relations and administrative staff. This includes the direct supervision of two associate directors and indirect supervision of eight other positions.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements department guidelines and procedures.
  • Manages and directs the daily operations of Career Services.
  • Responsible for and manages the department budget including all revenue streams, staff development, travel and expenditures.
  • Leads career services staff to identify and implement short- and long-range goals and objectives for the department.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, alumni, and industry professionals to expand job, internship, and mentorship opportunities for students.
  • Develop and implement strategies to connect students with potential employers through job fairs, recruitment events, networking opportunities, and internship programs.
  • Partner with academic departments, faculty, and student organizations to promote career readiness initiatives and ensure alignment with curricular offerings.
Administrative Job Functions (40%):
  • Advises Student Affairs leadership on complex and highly sensitive matters related to career services operations including staff, facilities and events/programs.
  • Oversee and support individualized career counseling services for students, including resume writing, interview preparation, job search strategies, career exploration, and professional development.
  • Works closely with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs departments to build collaborative opportunities to enhance the engagement and advancement of the Career Services team.
  • Prepares and reviews various reports and analysis denoting progress, adverse trends, and takes appropriate action.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on career outcomes data (e.g., employment rates, internship placements, salary data, etc.) to assess the effectiveness of services and inform institutional decision-making.
  • Use data and feedback from students, alumni, and employers to continually improve career programs and services.
  • Effectively communicate strategies, progress, success, program and initiatives to administration, campus departments and key stakeholders.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Master's degree in the fields of Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Business, or a related field;
  • At least six years of professional experience working in career services, student affairs, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • At least three years of professional experience working in Higher Education.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workforce trends, employer expectations, and career development practices across multiple industries.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:NonePreferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
  • Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting for purposes of assisting in the development of a career services department.
  • Team-building skills.
  • Experience with employer development and recruitment strategies.
  • Certification in career counseling or coaching (e.g., NACE, GCDF, or similar).
