Our New Jersey-based Chemistry team is looking for a collaborative and creative Chemistry Director. Our picturesque Cranbury site is located within a central pharmaceutical development hub and diverse community situated within a 45 minute drive of New York city. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop people, lead transformative projects, influence scientific strategy, set departmental vision, and expand your network.

As a primary organization leader, your skills will be leveraged across the following principal responsibilities:

  • Leadership skills: Accelerate the growth and development of a team of exceptional scientists in-person at our Cranbury site and remotely in our Shanghai China site. This includes fostering scientific curiosity, guiding career paths, and promoting continuous learning.   • Lead Process Development Projects: Utilize your expertise in small molecule process design & development to lead high-impact research projects across multiple therapeutic areas. Collaborate with cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals and milestones. Your strategic thinking, innovative problem-solving, and incisive decision-making will help ensure a busy project schedule high success rate.
  • Lead process control strategies development, including execution of process risk assessment, process parameters range justifications, and criticality assessments.
  • Ensure that on-target budgets, schedules, and performance requirements are met as they pertain to client deliverables.
  • Ensure the continuous improvement of early development and robust further scale-up of our API routes. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the efforts of process development, EH&S compliance, and manufacturing operations through strong technical and cGMP input, establishing manufacturing standards to enable robust, safe and scalable manufacturing.
  • Set Department Strategy: Develop and execute the strategic vision for Acceledev, aligning it with organizational objectives. As part of the Acceledev Chemistry Leadership Team, define clear objectives, priorities, and indicators of excellence, ensuring that we remain at the forefront.
  • Contribute to Scientific Strategy: Shape our strategies by applying your deep knowledge of process chemistry, staying informed on and sharing industry trends. Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify promising synthetic pathways, innovative technologies, and cutting-edge research approaches. Provide strategic guidance and data-driven recommendations that align with our mission and goals, driving scientific innovation and enhancing our competitive position.
  • Strengthening our external relationships and partnerships: Leverage your strong network and effective communication skills to foster in-depth collaborations. Actively participate in conferences and industry events, expand our visibility, and establish strategic alliances. Cultivate relationships that reinforce our leadership in process design/development and create opportunities for transformative partnerships.

Position Qualifications:

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related discipline with 10+ years of industry experience in an API process development related area; M.Sc. in chemistry or related discipline with 12+ years of industry experience in an API process development related area.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in small molecule synthesis, methodology/catalysis
  • Proficiency in complex problem-solving, and bench chemistry techniques
  • CDMO small molecule product management experience
  • Experience in managing direct reports and leading projects
  • Proven managerial experience with a track record of training, developing and mentoring team members in the field of chemistry R&D
  • Experience in developing and demonstrating scalable processes
  • Experience with process transfer, scale-up from R&D to a GMP environment
  • Skilled or experienced in analytical techniques

Additional Information:

  • Must be willing and able to travel within the USA and worldwide 10-20%.
  • AcceleDev currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range between $160,000 to $260,000 and will depend in part, on the successful candidate's qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, AcceleDev offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; life insurance. Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above. Further, AcceleDev reserves the right to amend, modify, or terminate its compensation and benefit programs in its sole discretion.
