One of sixty-two Jesuit high schools spanning the United States, Regis High School is located in Manhattan. Opened in 1914 through the generosity of Julia Grant and her family, the legacy of this founding family was to provideCatholic education for young men at no cost.

Today, Regis remains the only tuition-free private school in the country and attracts continued support from its alumni and parents. The tuition-free policy ensures a student body of uncommon talent from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds.

The Position

The Director of College Counseling will have an impressive record of success in preparing students to navigate the selective college admission process. The Director will lead an experienced team of professionals who work with students and their families to identify colleges which are both aspirational and realistic in today's competitive college admission climate. The Director will ensure that college counseling at Regis remains grounded in cura personalis, personalized care for each student as he strives to fulfill his potential in college and in life.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee a college counseling roadmap for the 540 Regis High School students and their families, with intensive emphasis on the junior and senior classes, each of which has approximately 135 students.
  • Lead and manage the College Counseling team in a harmonious working relationship with faculty and administration to support students throughout the college process.
  • Offer grade appropriate general presentations to families at each grade level regarding the college search and college admission process.
  • Provide direct support to students beginning in the junior year as they research colleges and counsel them as they formulate their college lists.
  • Maintain strong channels of communication with families of juniors and seniors via email, phone, and meetings.
  • Manage a caseload of 35 juniors and 35 seniors each academic year and ensure the timely completion of recommendation letters by the College Counseling team for all seniors.
  • Establish working relationships with college admission professionals who visit Regis High School and Deans of Admission at the nation's most competitive institutions.
  • Establish presence in professional organizations such as NYSACAC, JHSCCA, and NACAC and encourage the College Counseling team to pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Counsel families regarding SAT/ACT test preparation services, including individual tutoring and prep courses. Recommend a standardized test schedule for students beginning in the junior year.
  • Encourage families to explore scholarship opportunities and coordinate annual financial aid workshops which cover the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the College Scholarship Service Profile Application, and merit scholarship programs offered by colleges.
  • Offer essay writing workshops and provide support to students as they prepare personal statements.
  • Ensure regular updates to the College Counseling website and the Regis High School Profile which is sent to colleges with all applications.
  • Ensure timely transmission of transcripts to NCAA and applications to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
  • Prepare and present data reports as requested to the Principal, President and Board of Trustees.
  • Supports and is willing to advance the Catholic and Jesuit mission of the school.
  • Works in collaboration with the administration in observing the principles and ideals for which Regis High School stands.
Qualifications
  • Five years or more of experience working in college counseling or selective college admission.
  • Excellent communication skills with the written and spoken word.
  • Must be goal-oriented, organized, energetic, optimistic, and collaborative with colleagues. Kindness and a sense of humor are valued.
Education

Master's degree preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

The Director of College Counseling is a 12-month, full-time staff position. The director reports to the Principal. Salary range is $150,000 – $200,000 commensurate with years of experience. Most benefits go into effect immediately. Participation in the 403 (b) occurs after one year of employment.

Other Expectations

A willingness to work at times outside the normal school day and school year, including weekend events and summer immersions. The school expects one to conduct oneself at all times in a manner which shall not bring reproach upon oneself or the school.
