The Director of Operations - Commissary is responsible for delivering clear direction, leadership, and support to the commissary team to ensure customer, operations, and financial goals are met. The Commissary Director focuses on developing a culture of pride that consistently delivers safe, efficient, reliable operations while ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Atlanta Operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct supervision of 2 General Managers, 3 Station Managers, and up to 400 employees responsible for inventory management, general assembly of catering carts, quality assurance and catering operations for ~280 daily flights at the worlds busiest airport.
- Build effective and collaborative relationships with the customer, business partners, and other business entities through integrity, credibility, visible leadership, and excellent communication.
- Ensure systems are in place and assessed regularly to provide best-in-class performance in safety, customer satisfaction, operational performance, and financial results. (Systems to include front of house and back of house operations, sustainability initiatives, human resources, and finances.)
- Ensure compliance is maintained in accordance with policies and procedures throughout all areas (i.e., inventory tracking/usage systems, training/recurrent training, safety, SIDA, etc.)
- Ensure adherence to airport and aircraft security regulations and compliance with all government regulatory requirements.
- Ensure proper staffing levels daily for all work areas for hourly staffing.
- Anticipate staffing needs for optimum performance and ensure proactive recruiting measures are implemented.
- Ensure ongoing development of staff to include cross-training and skills assessments which qualify team members for greater responsibility, compensation, and growth.
- Promote team-building initiatives and perform coaching/mentoring activities to develop and motivate team members.
- Participate in employee relations investigations when complaints are brought forth and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner.
- Execute daily/weekly/monthly operational plans consistent with customer expectations and goals.
- Identify and drive continuous improvements in the operation process and communicate them to the staff, customer, and executive team.
- Oversee a variety of fiscal management activities including invoicing and billing, reconciliation, and accurate record keeping.
- Ensure compliance with Company policies and rules.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Bachelors Degree in Business, Aviation Management or related field is preferred.
- 8+ years experience leading large catering operations is highly preferred, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Must possess a valid GA drivers license and meet all airport requirements to operate vehicles at the airport.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, and up to a 10-year background check.
- Must have the authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
- Must complete ramp and SIDA training to obtain airport authority identification security credentials.
- Will be asked to work evenings, weekends, long hours, consecutive days during busy periods, and/or holidays as the operation schedule demands.
- Outstanding communicator; lead innovation by teaching, consensus-building, and project execution.
- Must be able to lead team members effectively, as well as coach and develop individuals toward meeting corporate and individual goals.
- Proven ability to solve problems and influence people across all functional areas.
- Proven ability to identify, evaluate and refine operational and financial results and manage to meet/exceed target performance.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and be self-starting on tasks within area of expertise.
- Solid decision-maker with excellent analytical skills.
PRE-REQUISITES
- Kitchen or commissary and/or airport customer service or cargo background
- Organizational and transformation skills
- Works well under pressure and managed large to hub stations.
- In-depth knowledge of process flow
- Interpersonal skills
