External Affairs (EA) is the intergovernmental division of the agency and custodian of DCWPs relationship with City Hall, elected officials, government entities, community and faith-based organizations, and stakeholders with broad policy and public affairs jurisdiction. EA is responsible for these relationships to ensure that the agency speaks with a singular and consistent voice to officials and entities that have touchpoints across DCWPs wide jurisdiction.
EA is seeking a results driven, self-starting individual to serve as its Director of Community Affairs. The Director of Community Affairs, under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of External Affairs, will be responsible for work activities including, but not limited, to:
- Overseeing the divisions outreach work and supervising a team of community affairs associates;
- Working closely with other agency division heads to devise and implement community engagement strategies;
- Building and maintaining relationships with elected officials, government, private, and non-profit entities to further DCWPs strategic goals;
- Representing and staffing senior leadership of the agency at events, meetings, and presentations citywide to communicate strategic goals, programs and policies;
Providing administrative and other types of support, including coordinating logistics, staffing, and training for team members.
Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
