Job Description:
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONSThe Director of Compensation and Benefits is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the overall design, implementation, and administration of the organization's compensation and benefits programs. This role ensures programs arecompetitive, compliant with regulatory requirements, and aligned with the organization's strategic objectives. The director also oversees the organization's retirement plans and is responsible for the development of compensation strategies, including base salary structure, merit processes, and benefits renewal.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage all aspects of the health benefits program, including group health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, retirement plans, voluntary benefits, and EAP.
  • Develop and implement compensation programs aligned with the organization's values and strategic priorities.
  • Advocate for and implement equitable compensation practices, promoting organizational equity and transparency.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of benefit plans, including claims experience, cost projections, and necessary premium adjustments.
  • Partner with Employee Benefits Brokers to develop benefit plan design and manage the annual renewal process.
  • Continuously review and recommend new approaches to managing health plan costs while improving member experiences.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including timely submission of government-mandated benefit-related reports.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication strategies in collaboration with internal communications to drive employee awareness and understanding of compensation and benefits programs.
  • Lead benefit initiatives to increase employee engagement, such as benefits fairs and retirement planning events.
  • Develop and maintain compensation training and communication programs to educate managers and employees about compensation programs.
  • Develop and maintain metrics to track the effectiveness of compensation program and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee the administration of retirement plans, including coordination with third-party advisors.
  • Collaborate with leadership to establish and maintain a market-competitive compensation philosophy.
  • Advise on market data and pay decisions to ensure alignment with the organization's compensation strategy.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to compensation and benefits administration.
  • Conduct job evaluations, develop salary structures, and participate in bonus compensation cycles to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Benchmark current compensation practices and recommend adjustments based on market trends.
  • Oversee the administration of leaves of absence, including Kalispel Family Medical Leave and Worker's Compensation.
  • Maintain organization design structure and related organization charts.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budgets.
SUPERVISORY
  • Develop and lead a high-performing compensation and benefits team, providing coaching, development, and mentoring.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in Compensation and Benefits
  • Oversees daily workflow of the Compensation and Benefits departments.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Direct, design, and plan compensation and benefits policies, objectives, and initiatives.
OTHER
  • Monitor industry trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources.
  • Ensures compliance with the applicable Kalispel Tribe of Indians, state and federal law and regulation, internal controls as well as policies and procedures throughout the organization.
  • Available and willing to work any changes in hours deemed necessary for Business Levels
  • Responsible for maintaining a consistent, regular good attendance record.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to understand the organization's goals and strategy.
  • May be required to be a panelist for the Internal Review Hearings.

EDUCATION
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and/or Certified Employee Benefits Plan (CEBO)certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing Compensation and Benefits.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience progressive Human Resources Experience.
SKILLS
  • Ability to build effective relationships and influence people with various backgrounds and levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal direction, and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of employment-related federal laws and labor relations management.
  • Demonstrated understanding of job evaluation systems including job classifications, salary levels, and salary adjustments.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and project management skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Thorough understanding of human resources and labor relations principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to compile, research, and analyze information.
  • Ability to compose and present comprehensive reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and negotiation skills.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Obtain and maintain a Kalispel Tribal Gaming License.
  • Valid driver's license (Must be in possession while operating a Tribal Vehicle)
  • Available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
