Job Description:

Ground Up Construction Recruiting has partnered with a leading general contractor in Kingsburg, CA that specializes in commercial and federal projects on their search for a Director of Construction. They have 3 divisions (general contracting, electrical & low voltage) - this person will oversee the general contractor side.

As the Director of Construction, you'll play a key role in strategic planning and process improvement to ensure that operations align with strategic goals. In general, you'll be responsible for overseeing all construction projects from initiation to completion and leading the entire division (estimators, project managers, superintendents, and project engineers).

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other divisions of the company, promoting a positive team environment
  • Lead, mentor, and develop construction staff
  • Promote accountability by taking responsibility for both successes and failures, fostering a culture of responsibility within the team
  • Monitor project progress and performance, addressing issues or delays as they arise
  • Review and approve project plans and schedules, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial accountability
  • Oversee contract negotiations with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring excellent communication and satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and construction methodologies to drive continuous improvement

What Makes an Ideal Candidate:

  • 10+ years of experience in construction management in Commercial/Public Works Construction or related position, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Strong construction business management experience including: P&L, budget management, construction estimating/contracts
  • Understanding of public works and prevailing wage requirements
  • Ability to solve complex problems and make decisions under pressure in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, whether its unexpected delays, budget changes, or design modifications
  • Ability to lead a diverse team with integrity and be of good character when representing the company
  • Excellent long-term planning skills with the ability to see the bigger picture and develop strategies to ensure projects align with the organizations goals
