Job Description:

Our client is hiring a Director of Cultivation to join their team. The Director of Cultivation will oversee the entire cultivation process at multiple sites, ensuring the highest standards of quality, compliance, and efficiency. This individual will be responsible for leading a team of growers, cultivation staff, and support personnel while driving innovation and continuous improvement in the cultivation process. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of large-scale cannabis cultivation, plant health, regulatory compliance, and team management.

Key Responsibilities:

Cultivation Oversight:

• Oversee all aspects of cannabis cultivation, from propagation through harvest, ensuring consistent, high-quality yields.

• Develop, implement, and refine cultivation protocols, including nutrient regimes, pest and disease control, irrigation, and lighting schedules.

• Ensure compliance with all state and local cannabis regulations, including environmental, health, and safety standards.

Facility Management:

• Manage and monitor multiple cultivation facilities, ensuring optimal environmental conditions for plant growth

• Coordinate maintenance and upgrades of cultivation equipment, HVAC, and lighting systems.

• Oversee facility expansion projects and optimize space utilization for cultivation.

Team Leadership:

• Lead and mentor the cultivation team, including growers, trimmers, and support staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

• Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and create training programs to enhance team skills and productivity.

• Schedule and coordinate shifts to ensure proper staffing across all cultivation operations.

Compliance and Reporting:

• Ensure adherence to all California cannabis regulations, including those related to cultivation practices, pesticide use, water usage, and product tracking (e.g., METRC reporting).

• Keep detailed records of plant health, nutrient use, pest management, and harvest data for compliance and continuous improvement.

• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and quality across all operations.

Budget and Resource Management:

• Manage cultivation budgets, track costs, and identify opportunities for cost-saving measures.

• Source and negotiate contracts with suppliers for cultivation-related materials, such as nutrients, soil, and equipment.

• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure that cultivation goals are met, including yield targets, potency, and efficiency metrics.

Research & Development:

• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, innovations in cannabis cultivation technology, and new cultivation methodologies.

• Lead research initiatives aimed at improving strain genetics, increasing yields, and optimizing operational efficiency.

• Test and implement new technologies, equipment, and growing techniques that could enhance plant health, potency, and sustainability.

Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship:

• Promote and implement sustainable cultivation practices, including efficient water usage, energy conservation, and waste reduction strategies.

• Ensure compliance with state regulations regarding water use and environmental impact.

• Explore organic or eco-friendly alternatives for pest control and nutrient supplementation.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience in cannabis cultivation may be considered.

• Experience:

• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in large-scale cannabis cultivation, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.

• Strong understanding of cannabis plant physiology, genetics, and breeding techniques.

• Demonstrated experience managing cultivation facilities and leading large teams.

• Experience working with regulatory frameworks in California, including knowledge of METRC and cannabis compliance requirements.

• Skills:

• Proven ability to manage cultivation teams, set performance goals, and foster a collaborative work culture.

• Exceptional knowledge of plant care techniques, including pest/disease management, nutrient regimes, and harvest optimization.

• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively.

• Proficiency with cultivation management software, environmental control systems, and data-driven decision-making.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Commitment to compliance and sustainability in all aspects of cultivation.

Additional Requirements:

• Must be 21+ and pass a background check in accordance with California cannabis regulations.

• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including working outdoors and in varying temperatures.

• Willingness to travel between multiple cultivation sites within California.
