Job Description:
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Four (4) years of full-time experience in direct fundraising, cultivating, soliciting and/or closing major gifts. Preferred Qualifications:One (1) year of supervisory experience. One (1) additional year of experience in direct fundraising, cultivating, soliciting and/or closing major gifts. Experience in a university and/or nonprofit setting. Experience with philanthropy, alumni relations, donor cultivation, events, and/or stewardship practices. Experience working with volunteers and/or diverse groups of individuals. Brief Description of Duties:The Director of Leadership Annual Giving will be responsible for managing a team of leadership annual giving officers, leading the team in executing a metrics-driven program to secure new and increased donors, and building a pipeline of future major gift prospects and preparing future major gift officers. The Director will be responsible for managing the leadership annual giving team, develop and implement a comprehensive leadership annual giving program, strategic direction, build pipeline and growth of gifts between $10,000 and $99,000.
  • Relationship Management:
    • Develop and strengthen strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, Advancement leadership, and other Stony Brook University Departments by fostering trust, collaboration, and open communication to support performance, strategic direction, and growth initiatives.
  • Strategy and Project Management:
    • Partner with Advancement leadership and key stakeholders to define strategic initiatives, key performance indicators, and success criteria. Projects will include but not limited to: Develop and implement a comprehensive leadership annual giving program. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and/or steward prospects capable of making gifts. Steward existing donors appropriately to encourage long-term relationships. Achieve specific and measurable goals for contacts, effective portfolio management, proposals presented, and dollars raised. Oversee the execution of strategic initiatives, providing direction, guidance, and support to ensure alignment with Development team goals and objectives.
  • Leadership:
    • Manage the Leadership Annual Giving team, providing strong leadership to foster growth, development and collaboration. Implement team wide strategies, develop best practices, and integrate new technologies to ensure the success of the team.
  • Growth/Development:
    • Participate in leadership development programs offered by organizations or educational institutions to enhance strategic thinking and leadership skills.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
