Summary:
- The Director of DevOps Engineering is a dynamic, hands-on technology leader responsible for driving the organization's DevOps strategy, implementation, and cultural transformation.
- This position requires a visionary yet practical leader who combines deep technical expertise in cloud-native technologies, particularly Kubernetes and its ecosystem, with strong leadership abilities to build and mentor high-performing engineering teams.
- The role demands both strategic oversight and hands-on technical direction to establish and maintain modern, scalable infrastructure and deployment practices.
Primary Job Functions
- Provide dynamic leadership and strategic direction for the DevOps organization, fostering a culture of innovation, automation, and continuous improvement
- Demonstrate and maintain deep technical expertise in Kubernetes architecture, including advanced concepts such as custom operators, CRDs, admission controllers, and platform capabilities
- Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale Kubernetes platforms, including multi-cluster management, service mesh implementations, and platform-as-a-service offerings
- Direct the development of custom Kubernetes operators and controllers to automate complex operational tasks and implement business-specific requirements
- Guide the implementation of GitOps practices and sophisticated CI/CD pipelines across multiple platforms and environments
- Oversee the architecture and implementation of cloud-native observability solutions, including monitoring, logging, and tracing at scale
- Lead the design and implementation of security practices within the Kubernetes ecosystem, including pod security policies, network policies, and secure supply chain practices
- Drive infrastructure-as-code initiatives using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Helm
- Establish and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity practices for cloud-native infrastructure
- Build and mentor high-performing engineering teams, focusing on technical excellence and professional growth
- Make employment decisions and/or recommendations on hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, corrective actions, terminations, pay adjustments, etc.
- Lead departmental meetings and training initiatives
- Participate in technology steering committees and architecture review boards
- Represent the DevOps organization in executive-level meetings and planning sessions
- Coordinate and manage the work of employees by directing members of the team to meet the area's goals. Audit regularly to ensure standard operating procedures are being adhered to.
- Manage employee performance and assist employees in making improvements to their performance through coaching, mentoring and administering performance reviews. Recommend, plan and/or implement employee training and skill development activities.
- Audit, maintain and ensure employee time-keeping and absentee records are accurate.
- Communicate company and departmental issues and goals and facilitate employee growth and development through weekly team meetings, regular individual employee meetings, coaching, training, and company-offered learning opportunities.
- Manage resources to optimize equipment, facilities, employees, methods and materials.
- Demonstrate the Company's Core and Growth Values in the performance of all job functions.
Job Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field– or equivalent experience
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in technology leadership roles
- Demonstrated expertise in Kubernetes architecture and operational management
- Deep understanding of cloud-native technologies and the CNCF landscape
- Proven experience leading and scaling DevOps organizations
- Strong background in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Extensive experience with CI/CD tools and methodologies
- Track record of successful large-scale technology transformations
Licenses or Certifications • CKA, CKAD, or CKS certifications
