The Economic Development Director is responsible for driving economic growth and development within the City of Charlotte. This role involves creating and implementing strategies to attract and retain businesses, foster job creation, and enhance the overall economic vitality of the city. The City of Charlotte Economic Development Department works to make Charlotte a great place to live and do business by: Supporting equal business growth. Creating local jobs. Growing employment opportunities. Investing in local communities.The Economic Development Director will be a member of the city's senior leadership team and will work collaboratively with city leadership as well as the mayor and city council.Key Responsibilities: Strategy Development: Develop and execute strategic plans to attract new businesses, retain existing businesses, and stimulate economic growth in targeted sectors. Business Attraction: Identify and engage potential businesses and investors, promote Charlotte's economic advantages, and support the negotiation of incentives and agreements. Partnerships and Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships within the City of Charlotte organization and with local businesses, community leaders, economic development organizations, and other stakeholders. Project Management: Oversee and coordinate various economic development projects, ensuring they align with city goals and objectives. Market Analysis: Conduct research and analysis on economic trends, market conditions, and competitive factors to inform strategic decisions. Incentives Management: Administer and manage economic incentives programs, including tax credits, grants, and other financial assistance. Community Engagement: Organize and participate in community events, workshops, and meetings to promote economic development initiatives and gather feedback. Policy Development: Collaborate with city officials and other departments to develop policies and regulations that support economic growth and development. Reporting: Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials to communicate progress, outcomes, and recommendations to stakeholders and decision-makers.Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Urban Planning, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Experience: Relevant experience in economic development, business development, or a related field. Experience in a municipal or governmental setting is a plus. Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and negotiation abilities, and proficiency in using data analysis tools and software. Knowledge: Understanding of economic development principles, real estate markets, and business incentives. Familiarity with local, state, and federal economic development programs is advantageous.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTThe City's Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
