Job Description:
Part-time Director of Employee Relations to lead our efforts in maintaining a positive, proactive, and legally compliant workplace. Reporting directly to the Chief Human Resource Officer, this role is essential in shaping our workplace culture and ensuring our employment practices reflect our values and legal standards. The position requires ensuring matters reported are worked through by the DER and with communication to and guidance from the Chief HR Officer. The position requires establishing trust amongst both staff and management and maintaining a required level of confidentiality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Policy Development and Legal Compliance:
* Develop, implement, and update employee policies and procedures in alignment with company goals and legal requirements.
* Ensure the employee handbook remains updated and compliant.
* Educate employees and management on policies procedures and legal considerations.
Conflict Management and Resolution:
* Manage and resolve conflicts and grievances among employees, as well as between employees and management.
* Provide mediation and negotiation support to resolve disputes effectively.
Strategic Implementation and Advisory:
* Develop and implement employee relations initiatives to promote a positive, ethical, and productive workplace.
* Provide regular updates to the CHRO on employee concerns and emerging trends to proactively prevent issues, address challenges, and foster a positive and productive work environment.
* Serve as a consultant to management and staff regarding employee relations matters.
Training and Development:
* Collaborate with HR to develop and conduct training programs on employee rights, responsibilities, legal compliance, workplace ethics, and effective communication.
* Assist managers with strategies to improve team dynamics and address employee challenges effectively
Performance Management:
* Guide supervisors and managers in handling performance issues, disciplinary actions, and termination processes.
* Guide managers and supervisors in addressing performance issues and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
* Guide managers and supervisors in addressing both positive and negative performance.
Employee Advocacy and Communication:
* Work with the CHRO and within the leadership structure to advocate for employee needs and ensure their concerns are addressed promptly.
* Enhance and promote employer-employee communication to maintain a transparent and inclusive culture.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
* Monitor and analyze data related to employee behavior and relations to identify trends and areas for improvement.
* Work closely with the CHRO to prepare detailed reports and maintain records of employee relations cases.
Strategic Planning:
* Identify and leverage strategic opportunities to enhance employee satisfaction and productivity.
* Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
* Juris Doctor (JD) degree with a focus on employment law from an accredited law school is required. Two years' experience in employee relations or labor law
* Demonstrated ability to manage complex workplace issues effectively and discretely.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of leading through influence and collaboration.
* Strong writing skills to generate reports, feedback narratives, corrective and disciplinary materials.
* The ability to prepare and facilitate presentations related to employee relations topics.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience in a senior employee relations role, reporting to executive management.
* Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR).
Work Schedule
* Position Type: Part-time - 20hr week
