Job Overview:
As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for the daily operation of the engineering
department. This role is essential in ensuring that all physical assets, systems, and equipment
operate properly to provide an exceptional experience for the guests and ensure the safety of
all individuals while on property.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the engineering team by assigning and monitoring daily projects
- Thoroughly review the Request for Proposal (RFP) or Invitation to Bid (ITB) to
understand project scope, deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria
- Conduct walk-throughs and assessing the safe and efficient maintenance and operation
of the physical structure of the hotel including all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems,
and any other related equipment
- Responds quickly to emergency mechanical/other building situations
- Tracks and manages room maintenance projects
- Manages the purchase of parts and equipment through purchase orders
- Collaborates and manages with 3rd parties for equipment maintenance and installations
- Ability to manage multiple service vendors, contracts, ensure their work is performed to
the highest standards
- Troubleshoot and repair kitchen equipment
- Collaborates with hotel leadership to obtain and present cost-effective proposals for
maintaining and repairing all systems throughout the hotel
- Maintains a guest-focused perspective at all times, ensuring positive guest interactions
- Create weekly departmental schedules, track vacation/sick requests for team members
- Complete weekly departmental payroll
- Understand the collective bargaining agreement and maintain positive employee
relations
- Be familiar with DC Building Regulations: Fire Code, Fire Alarm Inspection, Backflow,
Elevator Inspections, DC Health Department, etc.
- Maintain the building exterior and “curb appeal” of the entire hotel grounds
Qualifications:
- DC 3rd Class Boiler Operator's License
- CFC Universal Certification
- Minimum of 2 years experience in Building Management Systems
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and make
sound decisions under pressure
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Must have knowledge of methods and materials used in general building maintenance,
carpentry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC units.
- Computer skills required to include utilizing Microsoft suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively
with guests, staff, and management
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Able to stand for several hours, climb ladders, lift 50lbs
