As part of a talented cross-functional group, the Director of Clinical Data Procurement and Strategy will orchestrate work across UnitedHealth Group which includes collaborating directly with Optum and UnitedHealth Care. In this role you will be responsible to build a portfolio of clinical data connections by contracting with industries top clinical data vendors to bring in critical data for use in Treatment, Payment and Operations use cases. We are searching for an individual who can learn quickly, stay organized, adapt to dynamic situations, manage complex workstreams, write clearly, think from a consumer perspective, and inspire cross-functional teams to do their best work.The Director of Clinical Data Procurement and Strategy is a strategic role requiring a strong background in contracting/procurement methodologies, healthcare, strategic planning, and leadership of teams. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the success of clinical data initiatives and ensure efficient and effective procurement practices. This position operates with a primary emphasis on building and maintaining strong relationships with external vendors and internal business partners. This position has high potential for career growth, developing deep subject matter expertise, and building relationships within the healthcare industry.As the Director of Clinical Data Procurement and Strategy, you will be responsible for overseeing the contracting and vendor management of the organization's clinical data strategy and managing the procurement processes related to clinical data. Your primary role will involve collaborating with internal stakeholders, vendors, and internal customer partners to ensure seamless data procurement operations. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to optimize vendor relationships and improve the overall efficiency and quality of clinical data procurement.You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. Primary Responsibilities:Contracting and Vendor Management:Oversee the procurement process for clinical data, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and contract managementDevelop and maintain relationships with external data vendors, ensuring effective partnerships and timely data deliveryConduct market research and analysis to identify potential vendors and evaluate capabilities, pricing models, and data qualityEnsure compliance with regulatory requirements and data privacy standards, collaborating with legal and compliance teamsCollaborate with data analytics teams to define data requirements for clinical research, performance measurement, and reportingClinical Data Strategy:Develop and execute a comprehensive clinical data strategy aligned with organizational goalsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data needs and opportunitiesDesign and implement data governance frameworks, data acquisition processes, and data quality assurance strategiesStay informed about emerging trends in clinical data management and leverage knowledge to enhance data strategiesData Integration and Interoperability:Work closely with Business and Product teams to understand business needs, establish data integration processes and ensure interoperability across for your managed clinical data sourcesSupport and resolve vendor data integration issues, such as data mapping, transformation, and normalizationCollaborate with stakeholdersTeam Leadership and Collaboration:Lead a team of data professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance managementFoster a collaborative work environment, promoting knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaborationCollaborate with executives, clinicians, researchers, and business partners to align data strategy with organizational objectivesYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications: Before applying, please ensure each of these experiences are stated clearly on your resume under each applicable employer entry.10+ years of experience in healthcare, business development and strategy / innovation8+ years of leadership in business, programs and operations6+ years of demonstrated expertise in procurement management, vendor selection and contract negotiation4+ years managing people, with responsibility for their performance and developmentExceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders (engineers, tech teams and CEOs of health plans)Knowledge of clinical data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR) and data interoperability principlesExperience in healthcare analytics and reporting, including familiarity with data analytics tools and methodologiesSolid understanding of data governance frameworks and data privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA, CMS, GDPR)Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire othersSolid Vendor Management and Negotiation Skills, problem-solving skills and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple, diverse projects/events simultaneouslyDomestic travel up to 10% to various states where vendors are located and for industry conferencesPreferred Qualifications: Experience with clinical data interoperabilityExperience leading cross-functional teamsExperience partnering with senior leaders developing solid business partnerships and relationshipsIntermediate level of experience with Microsoft SuiteEffective and proven analytical skills and business acumenProven ability to work in a fast paced, highly matrixed environmentDemonstrated continuous learner, understanding complex business strategies, and recommending appropriate solutions*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter PolicyCalifornia, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $122,100 to $234,700 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
