Position Summary

The Director of Environmental Permitting will lead the regional team that manages our environmental planning, permitting, and construction projects. The incumbent ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations while overseeing the planning, design, and execution of major engineering and construction projects related to waste management facilities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in environmental permitting, project management, construction, project modeling, and budgeting within the waste management industry. This role facilitates a collaborative process with key stakeholders to align regulatory permits, operational plans, and engineering documents with facility and company needs.

Key Responsibilities

* Leads and manages the environmental permitting process for new and existing waste management facilities, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.

* Oversees all phases of engineering/construction projects, from initial planning and design to completion, including managing budgets, schedules, and resources.

* Develops comprehensive project models and budgets to ensure feasibility and profitability, including cost estimation, financial forecasting, and resource allocation.

* Facilitates a collaborative process with regional environmental managers, construction engineers, and the special waste team to incorporate facility and company needs into regulatory permits, operational plans, and engineering documents.

* Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, environmental consultants, and regulatory agencies, to ensure successful project outcomes.

* Develops and implements strategies to minimize environmental impact and ensure sustainable practices in facility development and construction activities.

* Prepares and submits permit applications, technical reports, and environmental assessments to regulatory agencies.

* Oversees the collection and review of data and metrics to support analysis and reporting efforts related to sustainability, budgeting, procurement, and other internal initiatives.

* Provides leadership and guidance to a team of environmental and construction professionals, fostering a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

* Stays current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to environmental permitting, project modeling, budgeting, and construction in the waste management industry.

* Develops and manages departmental budgets and financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field is required. Master's degree preferred.

* Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental permitting and construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the waste management industry.

* Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting processes, construction project management, project modeling, and budgeting.

* Proven experience in managing complex projects, including budget management, resource allocation, and schedule management.

* Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with regulatory agencies, community stakeholders, and internal teams.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, focusing on continuous improvement and innovation.

* Licensure in Engineering (PE), Project Management (PMP) certification, or other relevant certifications is a plus.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
