The Director of Environmental Operations will lead and manage the company's environmental operations, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and promoting sustainability initiatives. This role is pivotal in driving operational excellence and supporting our mission to protect the environment through responsible waste management and industrial services.
- Oversee the daily operations of the environmental services department, including hazardous waste management, emergency response, and industrial services.
- Ensure safety and environmental compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and standards.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of environmental professionals.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure integrated and cohesive operations.
- Coordinate with the sales team to align operational capabilities with market demands, support business development, and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Plan, manage, and execute environmental projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Manage budgets, resources, and financial planning for the department.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, clients, and community organizations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics.
- Respond to environmental incidents and emergencies, providing leadership and support as needed.
- Responsible for general supervision of staff and development; this includes but is not limited to establishing staffing levels, scheduling, training, written evaluations, spot checks on quality, payroll and additional pay incentives.
- Oversee the teams to ensure the best use of vehicles, equipment and personnel.
- Work with corporate Human Resources to build and develop talent on the team, understand employees' career goals and provide coaching to get employees ready for advancement.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team members. Hold supervisors accountable for feedback to team members, deliver corrective action and discipline when necessary, and document all performance issues.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements
- Proven track record of managing operations and projects
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives
- Experience in budget management and financial planning
- Proficiency in relevant software and technology used in environmental operations
