About the role:

The Director of Equity and Payroll is responsible for leading the equity and payroll accounting functions, working cross-functionally to ensure smooth payroll and equity processes, enhancing and administering the company's payroll and equity systems, ensuring compliance and managing and building the equity and payroll teams. The company is looking for a highly experienced professional with experience managing the payroll and equity team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, including implementing new systems and processes and ensuring efficient use of resources. The role will function as the internal point of contact for key business functions including Finance, Legal, and HR.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire payroll process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in payroll processing, including payroll taxes, deductions and compliance with local regulations.
  • Manage the administration of employee equity plans, including stock option grants, restricted stock units (RSUs), and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP).
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to payroll and equity administration, ensuring compliance with Company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Legal and HR departments to ensure seamless integration of payroll and equity processes with the broader financial, compliance and human capital management systems.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees on payroll and equity-related inquiries, including tax implications, vesting schedules and reporting requirements.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements related to payroll and equity, and ensure the Company's practices remain compliant.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, improve efficiency and enhance the employee experience.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors such as payroll service providers and equity administration platform to ensure service levels meet Company standards.
  • Lead a team of payroll and equity professionals, providing mentorship, coaching and development feedback to ensure high performance.
  • Prepare regular reports and analyses on payroll and equity trends, metrics and performance indicators for management review and decision making.
  • Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in payroll administration and equity management, with at least 3 years in an executive leadership position. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of payroll laws, regulations and best practices, including experience with multi-state and international payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in payroll and equity administration systems/software (e.g. Workday, ADP, E*Trade) and a demonstrated ability to use technology and new solutions to efficiently scale the function in a high growth company.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees, managers and external partners.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with experience managing teams and driving results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of identifying issues and implementing solutions effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Compensation:

    Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.

    • For Colorado-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $197,000 - $241,000
    • For New York City, Washington, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $221,000 - $270,000
    • For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $232,000 - $284,000
