A little bit about the projects:

Vineyard Offshore brings industry-leading experience to the emerging US-based offshore wind market. Owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, half of the joint venture behind the Vineyard Wind 1 project, Vineyard Offshore is focused on developing projects that will deliver clean, renewable, and cost-effective offshore wind power around North America. In addition to Vineyard Wind 1, Vineyard Offshore currently owns three additional US lease areas that together can generate at least 3.5 gigawatts of offshore wind energy to power a minimum of two million homes along the Northeastern, Mid-Atlantic and Northern California coasts.

A little bit about Department:

The Director of External Affairs, New England will be an integral part of Vineyard Offshore's External Affairs team. Comprising Communications, Government and Regulatory Affairs, Labor and Workforce, and Community Engagement, the External Affairs Department is responsible for shaping government policy to support offshore wind development and building support for projects by engaging with key stakeholders and delivering local benefits. This position will be based in our Boston office.

Schedule: Hybrid – 3 days in the office, 2 days wherever!

Employment Type: Full-time, salaried, permanent

Reports to: Director of External Affairs & Community Engagement

What you'll do:

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive external affairs strategies to support Vineyard Offshore's business objectives and enhance the company's reputation throughout New England (with a focus on Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island).
  • Build and maintain relationships with local government officials, industry partners, local communities, and environmental organizations to support Vineyard Offshore's projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure alignment of external messaging and communications with business objectives.
  • Support external communications, including press releases, social media, and other outreach efforts to promote Vineyard Offshore's brand and projects.
  • Represent Vineyard Offshore at industry events, conferences, and other public forums to promote the company's projects and initiatives.
  • Support the development of external affairs campaigns and initiatives to raise awareness of Vineyard Offshore's projects and achievements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop content for external communications, including articles, white papers, and presentations.
  • Monitor media coverage and public perception of Vineyard Offshore and develop strategies to address any negative feedback or misinformation.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators related to external affairs activities to assess the effectiveness of strategies and initiatives.
  • Manage the New England External Affairs team, including the External Affairs Manager, Massachusetts and the Education Initiatives Manager, and provide oversight and support to ensure their optimum performance.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Government, or relevant field; advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in communications, community engagement, or relationship management.
  • 5+ years of people leadership: hiring, leading, and developing diverse teams.
  • A strategic view: an ability to grasp the entirety of the Vineyard Offshore ecosystem – its purpose, its history, the myriad of stakeholders, its emerging direction, and the goals that support that direction.
  • Demonstrated success in designing strategies and building collaborative relationships with both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to effectively influence and negotiate in challenging situations.
  • A willingness to take risks and ability to address complex issues.
  • Proficiency with MS Office365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and SharePoint.
  • Authentic curiosity, proven problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Capable of managing multiple project workstreams across the development portfolio.
  • Nature of External Affairs requires non-traditional hours and willingness to travel within New England on a regular basis.
  • Hybrid work model; must be able to work in our Boston office a minimum of three days per week.
