Position Overview
Position Summary
The Director of Field and Clinical Experiences serves as the Winston-Salem State University Educator Preparation Programs (EPP) primary point of contact for P12 school administrators and teachers,
community partnership leaders, Educator Preparation Program faculty, staff, education majors, and candidates for all P12 Field and Clinical experiences (i.e., field-experiences, internships, and clinical internships); and for recruitment/retention activities of the Winston-Salem State University EPP.
The Director will develop and maintain partnerships with area school districts to enhance students' placement opportunities; work with students and faculty to coordinate field experiences and clinical internships; collaborate on service-learning experiences in local schools and community agencies; and support the development and implementation recruitment plans to support enrollment growth.
This 12-month position reports to the Associate Dean of Education, Quality Assurance and Community Engagement and works closely with Professional Education Council, EPP Chairpersons, EPP Program
Coordinators, Licensure and Community Engagement Director, Data and Assessment Director, all division coordinators, and faculty.
Teaching:
* Teach one content area course each academic year (in certified discipline
field/area)
* Teach clinical internship seminar each Fall, Spring or term offered
Assessment, Licensure, and Accreditation:
* Verify clinical placements meet program, school, college, state, and accreditation standards
and policies, ensuring diverse experiences within P-12 schools.
* Verify students meet all NCSBOE licensure, graduation and WSSU requirements (e.g., courses and required exams) to become program completers.
* Coordinate and conduct appraisal and assessment meetings with all parties to encourage and facilitate candidate professional growth.
* Complete state and accreditation reports requiring field experience, internship, licensure and/or NCSBOE/NCDPI data
* Maintain databases for tracking aspects of clinical placements required for licensure,
accreditation, job placement, career advancement, induction services, and alumni outreach.
* Maintain current Field Experience,
Pre-Clinical and Clinical handbooks.
Leadership and Collaboration:
* Develop and maintain relationships with the P-12 school leadership that support and enhance the Winston-Salem State University Educator Preparation Program (EPP) mission and goals.
* Coordinate and assess clinical experiences for undergraduate and graduate students in local and regional schools and community agencies, aligning to North Carolina State Board of Education (NCSBOE), NCDPI and CAEP requirements, students' preferences, and availability with actual opportunities.
* Conduct pre-clinical placement meetings, trainings, and orientations for majors, K-12 clinical educators, and EPP faculty, including NCSBOE/NCDPI educator evaluation systems, EPP Field and Clinical Assessments and Software, and other field/clinical relevant protocols/process facilitating onboarding of interns with partners.
* Provide and explain procedures and documents associated with field/clinical experiences to all relevant parties (e.g., majors, candidates, EPP Faculty supervisors, P12 cooperating teachers, and P-12 administrators, accrediting bodies).
* Serve as the CAEP Accreditation Chair for Field/Clinical Experience and serve as a essential member of the CAEP Leadership Team for the EPP.
* Collaborate with the Professional Education Council and WSSU EPP faculty to determine the nature, scope and sequence of clinical experiences required for course completion and licensure across multi-modal learning environments.
Recruitment and Retention:
* Collaborate on the development and implementation of recruitment plans, including presentations to prospective students, families, and participation in networking events.
* Facilitate actions related to the retention plan of the WSSU EPP.
* Collaborate with the EPP Director of Assessment in the WSSU EPP for data-sharing and collection
* Coordinate, sustain, and develop P-12, business, and community partnerships.
* Collaborate with the Community Engagement Officer to develop, coordinate, manage, and sustain WSSU EPP outreach programs (e.g., SciTech, Gems, RAMSC, Read WS, etc.).
Required Qualifications:
* Terminal Degree in a P-12 Teaching Discipline, Curriculum and Teaching, School Leadership, or
related field
* Minimum of 5 years teaching and/or administrative experience
* Current NC Teaching License or the ability to convert a current out of state Teaching
License
* Exceptional organizational, data analytic, and problem-solving skills
* Demonstrated leadership, communication, and presentation skills
* Ability to listen and communicate effectively in multi-modal and a/synchronous
environments
* Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain partnerships with agencies, organizations and/or business community
Preferred Qualifications:
* Strong background and knowledge of clinical practices
* Ability to develop, implement, execute recruitment and retention plans
