DescriptionResponsible for management and oversight the company fleet of vehicle and equipment across all divisions. Emphasizes safety in all aspects of job performance and assigned areas of responsibility.Responsible for management and oversight of the Company's vehicle/equipment maintenance programs. Ensures that programs are executed in a safe, efficient, professional, and economical manner. Coordinates activities working with all divisions/locations and directing subordinates' activities. Ensures that all activities are carried out in a safe, effective, professional, and efficient manner so as to protect employees and the assets of the Company.Essential Functions:1.Direct/daily interaction with Assistant Director of Fleet Maintenance and Shop Managers, leading by example, motivating for service excellence, and emphasizing safety in all aspects of work accomplishment. Regularly visits each shop location to provide leadership, guidance, and support.2.Assures timely and assertive responses to equipment failures. Resolves internal and external customer complaints by investigating/analyzing/resolving problems, determining root cause(s) of failures, and puts programs/rules/best practices in place to prevent future occurrences.3.Responsible for oversight of preventative maintenance program, ensures that Assistant Director of Fleet Maintenance and Shop Managers coordinate maintenance/repair of vehicles/equipment with Division Managers in order to minimize downtime and maximize equipment utilization.4.Analyzes equipment/vehicle data (life cycle cost analysis, maintenance records, hours of use, etc.) to anticipate needs and/or proactively eliminate failures. Collaborates with Vice Presidents and Division Managers to make recommendations for vehicle/equipment replacement, researches manufacturer specifications and utilizes cost-conscious decision markers/budget parameters and product warranty in selection of same.5.Develops, implements and maintains standard operating procedures for vehicle/equipment maintenance.6.Develops, implements and maintains standard operating procedures for equipment maintenance inventory.7.Develops and maintains manuals, maintenance check lists, and procedures for Cranemasters unique/specifically designed/engineered equipment as needed.8.Ensures that Shop Managers/Inventory Managers maintain appropriate levels of inventory for commonly used items; ensures that purchases are accomplished in a cost-effective manner; assignspurchasing limits for purchases and ensures that approvals for purchase(s) of parts that exceed purchasing authority are obtained in advance.9. Oversees project/repair/maintenance scheduling, ensuring that delivery commitments and deadlines are met.10. Ensures that Shop Managers timely submit and/or approve accurate reports/data/documentation in accordance with established processes for accounting/payroll. Includes: payroll data, equipment usage, project reports, etc.11. Provides hands-on demonstration of commitment to the company's culture and maintenance of a positive work environment. Provides leadership and mentorship to all employees in order to retain a well skilled and highly capable work force.12. Responsible for hiring/selection process. Utilizes best in practice interview skills to select the best talent, and individuals of integrity/character that best fit/enhance Cranemasters culture.13. Provides regular feedback as well as coaching/counseling to direct reports to further develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities. Conducts annual assessments of direct report's job performance for annual reviews. Identifies training needs and goals for further development of employee's skills ensuring that employee is afforded the opportunity to attain these goals.14. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending meetings, workshops, training, utilizing professional publications, establishing personal/professional network and participation in various trade associations.15. Maintains the highest level of confidentiality with regard to Cranemasters proprietary information.16. Exhibits professional appearance, attitude, and communication at all times while performing responsibilities of the position of Director of Fleet Maintenance.17. Other duties as assigned.Required Travel: up to 50% in order to respond to/address equipment issues.Regular site visits. Attend various meetings and visit job-sites.Subordinate Positions: Assistant Director of Fleet Maintenance, Shop ManagersImmediate Supervisor's Title: President; with dotted line reporting/collaboration withVice Presidents, Division Managers and Department ManagersRequired Skills and Experience:1. 10+ years proven fleet management experience, high school diploma supplemented by the equivalent of 5 years technical training/education in related field.2. Prior experience in Railroad, construction, or heavy equipment industry. Demonstrated knowledge of heavy equipment mechanics, hydraulics, welding, wiring etc.3. Solid knowledge of D.O.T. regulations including permitting for overweight and oversized loads, FRA regulations, and Cranemasters safety policies and procedures.4. Experience managing multiple projects/jobs and working directly with clients/prospects. Ability to analyze situations, identify problems and recommend solutions.5. Ability to manage all aspects of budget, fiscal affairs of an assigned department.6. Ability to resolve conflicts and manage crises.7. Proficient computer skills (including MS Office programs) and ability to learn additional software as required for operational needs including submission of project reports, payroll data, labor hours, etc.8. Team player with ability to participate in planning processes and work with others to meet goals and objectives.9. Strong and proactive communication skills as necessary to coach/counsel/provide feedback to employees, conduct job briefings, debriefings and communicate as necessary to improve and enhance the culture of the organization.10. Demonstrated organization and administration skills with detail orientation to ensure day-to-day smooth operations and maintain detailed/accurate records.11. Must project positive and professional image to customers, co-workers, work crews, and general public.12. Must possess a valid drivers' license with good driving record; preference for possession of Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).13. Able to read, write and speak English.14. Must pass qualification tests as required (includes: ERail Safe and other training/safety programs).15. Must meet 24/7 availability to respond to emergency calls for service including weekends and holidays.Physical Demands:1. Must be able to work while under considerable stress.2. Walking / carrying / lifting items associated with normal office work (not to exceed 50 lbs.).3. Occasional work in inclement weather conditions.4. Working extended hours.5. Ability to stand and work outside in all weather conditions.6. Ability to answer phones to assist internal and external customers.7. On call 24/7 (to include nights, weekends, holidays) to respond to, address, and resolve equipment issues. Depending on circumstances immediate travel may be necessary to resolve equipment failures in the field.? Cranemasters is a 24/7 emergency service provider to the railroad industry and as such, the Director of Fleet Maintenance is subject to work outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays.
