About the Role This role requires a deep understanding of payroll processes, compliance regulations, and international payroll practices. The role is responsible for managing our global payroll operations, and aligning systems, processes, and tools across each of our regions. This leader will undertake all global payroll transformation projects, provide insight to various stakeholders, and manage risks. They will act as a critical member of the leadership team in the development and execution of short-term and long-range plans, corporate goals, strategic planning, and growth objectives. What does a great Director of Global Payroll do? The individual in this role will lead a team to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for employees worldwide. They will act as a main point of contact for both employees and external vendors regarding payroll issues, so a strong service-oriented approach and high sense of urgency are critical. They will be responsible for oversight and execution of all payroll tools, data & analytics insights, and organizational government reporting requirements related to employees. Additionally, they will drive continuous process improvements. How you will provide meaningful contributions:
  • Independently and effectively manage all payroll operations related to employee compensation, bonuses, commissions, equity, benefits, etc.; this includes processing payroll for ~1100 employees in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia, in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Identify gaps in processes and work towards solution and implementation to create clear standards.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and documentation of key process improvements and SOX compliant internal controls.
  • Work closely with Accounting to perform monthly payroll close duties. This includes preparation and review of period-end accruals, assist with journal entries for all payroll and benefits, preparation of payroll account reconciliations, payroll related variance analysis, and other duties related to accounting payroll functions.
  • Work with federal, state, and local tax agencies to ensure filing compliance, respond to notices, and maintain good account standing - both Domestically and Internationally
  • Support annual Financial, Worker's Comp, 401k, and other audits as required
  • Manage annual preparation and delivery of Form W-2s and 1099's
  • Respond to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matters ensuring the highest customer satisfaction
  • Provide formal and ad-hoc analysis and reporting of payroll, benefits, and headcount
  • Partner with internal constituents to continuously deliver system enhancements, improve workflows, increase functionality and introduce new modules as business requirements evolve
  • Create metrics, reports and dashboards that provide accurate and actionable insights related to workforce trends
  • Lead and develop a team of payroll professionals globally including resource planning and optimization of team structure
  • Drive consistent, global processes and coordinate regional efforts towards global process standardization in line with statutory requirements, while allowing local flexibility as needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Required qualifications for the role
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business and/or equivalent combination of education or 15+ years experience leading a global payroll team
  • 5-10 years of relevant multi-state and international payroll experience
  • Advanced expertise with cloud-based automated HRIS and payroll systems
  • Highly analytical with a strong working knowledge of payroll and tax processes with multiple withholdings, benefits (health and welfare and retirement), garnishments, labor compliance, accounting principles related to payroll, and Federal, State and local regulations
  • Capable of dealing effectively, diplomatically, courteously and confidentially with all levels of employees
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and communication skills, including a strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines consistently.

The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on the applicant's geographic location.
