Director of GolfJob DescriptionReports to: Executive Director & Camp DirectorAcademy Camps is an overnight sports-specific sleepaway camp experience that takes place on the campuses Blair Academy (NJ) and Suffield Academy (CT).We are looking for an experienced and organized Director of Golf for our 2025 summer season on the campus of Blair Academy. This is a turn-key role that allows you to focus on helping athletes get better in their sport without all the operational and logistical hurdles - you don't even need to bring your own cones!Who we areAcademy Camps is a modern approach to the sports camp experience. We offer 1- and 2-week sessions for Boys & Girls aged 10 - 15 interested in baseball, basketball, field hockey, football, golf, lacrosse, running, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, tennis & volleyball. Our campers choose one of our 13 Academy Sports and receive 2 intensive training sessions per day with our high-performance coaching staff.We are a dedicated team of high performance coaches, nurturing & exemplary counselors, and experienced camp professionals, passionate about the 'whole athlete'. Outside of sports specific training sessions, AC is distinguished in delivering programming focused on its pillars of Performance, Wellness, Mindset, and Leadership mixed in with a healthy dose of fun through a daily schedule of traditional sleepaway camp activities.The positionOur Director of Golf is a member of our senior-level staff. They will develop and coach a program aimed to improve our Golf athlete's physical, mental, and emotional skills. You will oversee, mentor, and guide the professional development of 1-6 coaches. Under your direction, athletes will focus on improving their sports specific skills, game IQ, love of the game, and overall physical fitness. The program will also teach confidence, growth mindset, and teamwork skills.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and implement a one-week and two-week Academy Camps Golf Program with coaching strategies designed to support athletes in achieving their goals
- Get to know every athlete well and respond to their individual needs.
- Mentor athletes to foster athletic, emotional, and social growth
- Apply basic youth development principles in working with athletes and staff through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth
- Create an Academy Camps Golf Athlete Evaluation process and form
- Complete the Academy Camps Golf Athlete Evaluation for every athlete upon the completion of their given session (1 or 2-weeks) with the support of your coaching staff
- Support in the recruiting process to identify and hire your ideal coaching team
- Manage and mentor 1-6 coaches by providing responsibilities, regular feedback, and end-of-session staff evaluations
- Maintain the equipment and facilities to ensure safe playing conditions
- After each training session, ensure the area is clean and the equipment is returned to storage
- Participate as a member of the camp team to deliver and supervise electives, evening programs, special events, and other all-camp activities and camp functions, as needed
- Actively participate in all staff training & meetings
- Manage and coordinate any inter-league or inter-camp competitions
Option to increase compensation through Camper Referral Program:
- Earn referral bonuses by driving the camper recruiting process by identifying and recruiting prospective athletes
Your Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 6+ years experience coaching, required, and with certifications, preferred
- Proven track record of program development and management
- A holistic approach to coaching - willingness and desire to develop the whole athlete physically, mentally and emotionally
- An excellent relationship builder - quick to connect, build trust, and rapport
- A goal-oriented coach - motivated to support our athletes in achieving their goals
- A creative problem-solver - the ability to identify issues and implement solutions that ensure ongoing athlete development
- A growth mindset - an orientation towards learning and development; willing to receive and implement feedback and learn from mistakes
Expectations, Compensation, and Benefits
- Available and on-site for the dates of the full summer session including staff pre-season training and post-camp: June 13 - August 3
- Room and board included on-site at Blair Academy, our 463-acre hilltop campus with access to state-of-the-art athletic facilities, providing a seamless and immersive coaching experience.
- The AC compensation package is competitive and is commensurate with skills and experience. Compensation for a full summer commitment is $10,000 - $13,000 (includes room and board).
- Option to increase compensation through Camper Referral Program: Earn $250 referral bonus for each camper enrolled.
