The Suffolk County Government Office of Human Resources is seeking a Director of Human Resources.
Key Elements Of The Role:- Manages the County's services and programs, and assures compliance with regulatory concerns, for all Suffolk County Departments.
- Lead the Human Resources team that is responsible for developing and administering human resources policies in the areas of:
- Recruitment
- Orientation and training
- Compensation
- Benefits Administration
- Employee Relations
- Regulatory Compliance
- Oversee Workday administration to ensure utilization and compliance in all areas.

*This position does not offer relocation assistance at this time**Sponsorship is not available for this role**Remote work is not available for this roleSalary Range: $109,229 - $ 179,986 per year MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSOPEN COMPETITIVE(a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and four (4) years of experience, at least two (2) of which were in the public sector, in an organization performing and managing a variety of activities including: workforce planning, recruiting, employee development and training, performance appraisal, and organizational change management, at least two (2) years of which must have included supervision of staff.
OR(b) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree and six (6) years of experience, at least three (3) of which were in the public sector, in an organization performing and managing a variety of activities including: workforce planning, recruiting, employee development and training, performance appraisal, and organizational change management, at least two (2) years of which must have included supervision of staff.
OR(c) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with an Associate's Degree and eight (8) years of experience, at least four (4) of which were in the public sector, in an organization performing and managing a variety of activities including: workforce planning, recruiting, employee development and training, performance appraisal, and organizational change management, at least two (2) years of which must have included supervision of staff.
OR(d) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and ten (10) years of experience, at least five (5) of which were in the public sector, in an organization performing and managing a variety of activities including: workforce planning, recruiting, employee development and training, performance appraisal, and organizational change management, at least two (2) years of which must have included supervision of staff.
IMPORTANT: Must be a Suffolk County resident within five years of commencing your employmentFURTHER POSITION DETAILS:- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of human resources administration including employee relations, employment law, employee compensation, benefits administration, and organizational planning and development;
- Knowledge and experience with the legal, administrative and procedural regulations applicable to the administration and operations of County government;
- Comprehensive computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including Excel and database management;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with officials at all levels;
- Ensure all human resources activities comply with federal, state and local laws and directs the preparation of required information and government reporting.
This Role Is A Provisional Appointment A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position.
