This person serves as the primary campus professional to provide support, guidance, and engagement opportunities for the international student population. The director is responsible for the following job functions:
- Lead a unit that is a department within the Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS) by providing vision, and establishing measurable objectives
- Foster a culture of engagement for the international student community at McNeese
- Assist international students with becoming acclimated to domestic culture while engaging domestic students with the richness of international culture
- Provide day-to-day guidance and advisement to the international student community
- Serve as the advisor of the International Student Association and ensure the organization is active and visible within the campus community
- Provide guidance to all international student organizations in conjunction with the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership
- Develop programs and initiatives to support the specific needs of the international student population including partnerships with other student affairs departments and functional areas campus wide
- Organizes workshops and presentations that support students' current and future needs (filing taxes, work visas, acquiring SSNs, etc.)
- Establish and maintain community partnerships to expand a network of support and engagement for the international student population
- Ensure the Office of International Student Services is properly represented at and involved with campus outreach events including but not limited to Preview Days, Cowboy Camp New Student Orientation, Freshman Convocation, and CLASS Open Houses.
- Serves as one of the designated school officials for F-1 international student compliance
- Collaborate with enrollment management to issue compliance records to international students
- Coordinate with enrollment management to issue the International Student Academic Scholarship award letters and works with Office of Scholarships to ensure documentation is properly cataloged
- Maintain a partnership with the International Student Compliance Advisor in the Office of Advising
- Remain up to date regarding the international student experience and compliance by participating in virtual and in-person conventions and/or conferences, and reading and incorporating any regulatory changes into university practice
- Provides support and advisement to domestic students seeking international study abroad experiences (ISEP Study Abroad Program) as part of their enrollment at McNeese.
- Supervise a graduate assistant and student workers employed in the department
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervision and other campus authorities
Required/Preferred Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with at least three years of professional experience
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Understanding of various cultures and identities represented in a higher education community
- Must be proficient in use of MS Office, student information systems, social media, CRM systems, and related technologies used in post-secondary educational settings
- Knowledge of how to effectively assist international and domestic students in navigating enrollment and engagement in an educational setting required.
- Experience managing program budgets
- Some form of supervision experience
- Ability to work frequent evenings, nights, and weekends with prior notice
- A commitment to starting and earning a Master's degree in a discipline relative to work performed in the position
Preferred:
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in student affairs, student services, counseling, or other student-centered degree program
- Experience issuing, reporting, and managing international student matters in SEVIS
- Lived experience as an international student or an international student advocate
- Experience in student development, student organizations, multicultural affairs, retention/mentorship, student activities, or similar student life role
- Familiarity with relevant legal and governance issues at the campus, local, state, and federal levels
- Experience advising and guiding international students
- Experience in policy development, enforcement, and compliance monitoring in an educational setting
- US citizenship status or immediate eligibility for US citizenship
