Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) - a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York - seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Director of Neighborhood Engagement within the William Julius Wilson Institute. The William Julius Wilson Institute is a national resource for place-based, people-focused solutions that open pathways to social and economic mobility. The Director of Neighborhood Engagement will play a role in delivering strategic consultation to neighborhood-based organizations. This position requires a basic understanding of the nonprofit sector, particularly in addressing community development, social equity, and place-based initiatives. The Director of Neighborhood Engagement will work closely with Neighborhood Engagement Managers to deliver actionable strategies that advance their mission, optimize resources, and enhance their community impact. You will be vital in supporting projects throughout the engagement life cycle. Additionally, the Director of Neighborhood Engagement will support the development and delivery of technical assistance to neighborhood-based organizations. A successful candidate will combine project management, strategy, research, and problem-solving skills with a passion for social impact and an understanding of the nonprofit landscape.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree required

Who you are

* 5+ years of leadership experience within nonprofit organizations, foundations, or community-based initiatives.

* Consulting experience, a plus.

* Proven track record of managing complex projects within the nonprofit or public sector, including familiarity with funding structures, governance, and community engagement strategies.

* Strong project management and organizational skills.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build trust and rapport with diverse stakeholders.

* Demonstrated passion for youth and community development, social justice, and equity-driven change.

* Proficiency in nonprofit-specific tools (e.g., customer relationship management systems, program evaluation tools) and general project management software.

* Salesforce experience is a plus.

* Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), data analysis, and strategic planning tools.

What you'll do

* Support Neighborhood Engagement Managers, including the Senior Relationship Manager, as they work with neighborhood-based organizations' clients to build strong relationships with key stakeholders. This may include building direct relationships with key project stakeholders.

* Support in the identification and delivery of tailored solutions to meet the specific challenges and opportunities of neighborhood-based organizations, including funding strategies, program development, and stakeholder engagement.

* Support engagements with neighborhood-based organizations clients, ensuring alignment with the client's mission and community objectives.

* Oversee various aspects of project execution.

* Manage a database of technical assistance providers and resources.

* Work closely with internal teams to ensure consistency and quality across all technical assistance engagements.

* Stay informed on trends and best practices in nonprofit capacity building and community development and incorporate these insights into program design and internal training.

* Communicate technical assistance insights to Neighborhood Strategy and Engagement Teams.

* Additional projects and initiatives across the Institute as needed.

* Willingness to travel as needed for client engagements, including site visits and community meetings (typically 20-40%).
