Carevide is a non-profit Community Health Center (also called a Federally Qualified Health Center) dedicated to improving access to quality, cost-effective, comprehensive health care with respect and compassion for all members of our communities. Carevide has been serving North Texas communities for over 47 years and provides primary healthcare, dental care, women's health, school-based healthcare, and behavioral health services. Carevide originated in the 1970s with a focus on women's healthcare provided through grant funding in Greenville, TX. Carevide became a Federally Qualified Health Center and expanded services by responding to its surrounding counties' healthcare and social service needs. Through federal, state, and local private partnerships, satellite sites were opened through the years in Hunt, Fannin, Collin, Kaufman, Delta, and Hopkins Counties, including two school-based health centers. Today, Carevide serves over 28,000 patients through nine medical, specialty, and school-based sites. All Carevide family medical sites are recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home by The National Committee for Quality Assurance.

Position Summary

Under the leadership of the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the Director of Nursing (DON) serves as a key member of the Operations team and is responsible for oversight of nursing operations. The DON is the chief nurse at the health center and is responsible for the delivery of quality medical care to patients. The DON functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team within the scope of their license, but also oversees the nursing staff and provides direction regarding nursing care at the health center. The DON supports the organization's goals of achieving quality outcomes and the delivery of patient-centered care while assuring alignment with Carevide's mission, vision, and values. The DON directly supervises Practice Managers in their nursing role and is responsible for establishing high-quality nursing standards through visionary leadership, strategic planning, and innovation. The DON is an exemplary model, for both staff and patients, for professionalism, respect, customer service, compassion, and the values of the organization.

Essential Duties

  • Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and management to Carevide's health center sites that mirrors the adopted mission and core vision and values of the organization.
  • Assist the Operations team with driving the organization to achieve and surpass organizational productivity goals, improving cash flow, and meeting all funding and regulatory requirements.
  • Assure all health center sites operate effectively with sustainable, appropriate staffing.
  • Maintain clinical expertise and competency as well as demonstrate a thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality primary healthcare.
  • Collaborate with health center staff and providers to ensure optimal patient care, patient flow, and patient satisfaction.
  • Provide clinical and managerial oversight for the nursing department by assuming responsibility of and accountability for delegating, directing, and supervising patient care activities.
  • Collaborate with the CMO in the development and maintenance of standard treatment protocols for disease conditions most prevalent in the health center's patient populations.
  • Participate in Compliance and Performance improvement activities for continuous quality improvement and risk management purposes.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance workflow processes and provide workflow designs.
  • Remain current with nursing and healthcare trends and information that impacts nursing practices.
  • Serve on and provide clinical guidance for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Quality Improvement, Infection Control, and CPI Committees.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Department to monitor health outcomes and implement system changes for the nursing staff as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the team on initiatives such as PCMH recognition, Value-Based Care, organizational cultural changes, customer service, trauma-informed care, etc.
  • Responsible for compliance with infection control protocols.
  • Maintain the health center's pharmacy licenses as appropriate and work collaboratively with Pharmacist to manage medication needs.
  • Lead the health center's effort to participate in healthcare workforce development programs with local nursing schools.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of grants, new clinical sites, expansion of services, and other innovative projects.
  • Responsible for health education programs for patients and communities.
  • Foster a success-oriented and accountable environment within the organization by goal setting and assessments at least quarterly of clinical operations.
  • Model a customer service-focused mission-driven approach to service delivery that values diversity in our patient population and staff.
  • Assure knowledge of and compliance with HRSA and other federal/state regulatory requirements.
  • Assure health centers have sufficient pharmaceutical supplies and medications within the confines of the organizational budget requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to improve patient satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in the health center's electronic health records and collaborate with clinical staff and information technology staff to optimize the systems for efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Texas.
  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Master's degree in business or a health-related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Professionals Certification.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of practice experience as an RN or LVN giving direct patient care.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • Knowledge of advanced principles of health promotion, prevention, and motivation.
  • Knowledge of clinical protocols and the ability to quickly gain specific knowledge of the health center's current operational protocols.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
  • Ability to effectively present information in small group situations to patients, health center staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to prepare statistical and administrative reports.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with local community agencies to coordinate services for patients.
  • Ability to prioritize and allocate resources.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel at a high level.
  • Excellent people skills, with the ability to partner with an operational team.
  • Able to navigate interpersonal communication and compose clear and professional written business correspondence.
  • Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the organization's mission, vision, values, and the community health center movement.
  • Flexible and able to multitask and can work in a complex and fast-moving environment, while also driving toward solutions.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
  • Willing to travel to all of Carevide's service sites as needed.
  • Willing to travel to conferences and participate in professional development activities to keep current with trends and practices in health care administration, including federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Possess the desire to grow professionally, learn the FQHC industry, and be an emerging leader in the organization.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Full-time professional position, 40+ hours per week on-site.
