Job Summary

The Director of Operations will provide oversight of the operations of the entire Memory and Aging Center (MAC), the largest division in the Department of Neurology led by the Division Director, Behavioral Neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller. The MAC is a world-class center that provides UC Health clinical care services in addition to biomedical, observational, clinical therapeutic clinical trials, basic science research, and supportive care trials to improve the quality of life for persons living with dementia as well as prevention and behavioral interventions for healthy agers. The Center has over 50 faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and international Global Brain Health Institute fellows. Members of the MAC provide interprofessional staff including Neurologists, Neuropsychologists, Advanced Practice Nurses, Social Workers, Speech Pathologists, and Genetic Counselors. It is an exciting time as new therapeutics are available for our patient populations. We have services for our local communities. The Community Outreach Program (COP) is comprised of a multilingual (English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog) and multicultural team dedicated to improving the quality of health care for vulnerable communities in San Francisco and supporting brain health equity for all communities through brain health education on topics such as cognitive impairment, assessment and management, and the prevention of dementia. All of our services aim to be culturally appropriate and community-informed.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $173,400 - $260,200 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is engaged in a wide range of clinical and basic research programs and provides clinical services for patients with brain health concerns. The UCSF Memory and Aging Center is an NIA-designated Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) working to translate research science into improved diagnosis, therapeutics, and care for people with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease and related diseases, as well as to find novel treatments or prevention. The MAC specializes in Mild Cognitive Impairments, Alzheimer's Disease, Frontotemporal dementia, and other neurodegenerative diseases. The Memory and Aging Center has over 300 employees and over 50 faculty. In addition to research and clinical UC Health outpatient services, the MAC offers several training programs including the Global Brain Health Institute with 15 GBHI fellows a year from around the world, as well as a certified Behavioral Neurology Training Program with up to 8 fellows annually.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • 8+ years of related experience
  • 7+ years of experience as a manager
  • Thorough familiarity with the following: Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-21, (Cost Principles for Educational Institutions); OMB Circular A-110 (Administrative Requirements for Grants and Agreements); OMB Circular A-133 (Audits of States, Local Governments, and Non-Profit Organizations); FDA guidelines
  • For clinical research management: Extensive experience with research program development, good clinical practices, protocol development, participant recruitment and retention, and site monitoring
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll
  • Excellent ability to establish metrics for Memory and Aging Center and employee goals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and influence others and to develop and maintain high standards of customer service
  • Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques
Preferred Qualifications
  • Very strong ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution
  • Thorough knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs
  • Excellent project management skills, including the capability of managing capital projects
  • Broad knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs
