Job SummaryThe Director of Operations will oversee and coordinate the state (MN/ND/SD) operations while actively participating in the safety, human resources, recruitment, and sales directives. Hours and Wages
  • Exempt salary position
  • Starting wage is $97,000 - $128,500, based on relevant years of experience, education, certifications, and comparison to other employees already in this role
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality, efficiency, and tracking performance against targets
  • Prepare, manage, and track reports throughout the state
  • Enforce safety, DOT, and company policies
  • Review and analyze expenditures and other financial information; uses results to develop and implement plans, policies, and budgets
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations and available funding
  • Actively participate on a regional council for long-range transportation planning as a representation of the state
  • Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
  • Facilitate monthly leadership meetings
  • Hire, train, discipline, and onboard new staff
  • Extensive travel is required
  • Perform other required duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to influence, develop and maintain good working relationships across a variety of functional areas and customers
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including meeting deadlines and achieving results
  • Thorough understanding of applicable federal, state, local, and company safety policies
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and decision making considering relative costs and benefits of potential actions; critical thinking logic and reasoning to identify solutions
  • Proficient with computer-based management systems and Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Education and Experience
  • At least 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or Operations Management or related field preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in the transportation industry and leadership preferred
  • Must hold a valid CDL Class A driver's license OR successfully complete Company paid CDL training program
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical exam
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work with all types to freight which include, but are not limited to hazardous material, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
