The Director of Operations - Parts is responsible for developing and executing the growth strategy for the Powerhouse parts business. A transformational change will be required to grow the parts business from an air brake shop to a multifaceted repair and remanufacturing parts business. This business will focus on supporting railroads, shippers, and leasing companies. This role requires a dynamic leader with superior management skills, combined with the ability to effectively implement all programs as directed by management. Supervisory Responsibilities: This role will be responsible for supervising, managing, and developing a current group of 10-15 talented air brake technicians as well as one Office Support staff. Depending upon growth and staff scaling, this role may be responsible for up to ~20 direction reports.   • Manages the day-to-day operations of the business to support production requirements and customer needs.
  • Planning, initiating, executing growth initiatives for the business to meet our strategic growth plan.
  • Lead safety culture so that all employees are engaged in safety process and exhibit safe behaviors in all that they do.
  • Lead and engage employees in problem solving and process improvement to improve departments Key Performance Indicators: Safety, Quality, Production, and Efficiency.
  • Manage the standardization and improvement of all business processes. Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and effectiveness of the operation. Support Lean Philosophy and Principals.
  • Involve all employees in as many aspects of the work process as possible to ensure maximum contribution and participation and to help in reaching the highest possible level of productivity.
  • Reporting all activities via use of analytical tools.
  • Experience directly related to the understanding of locomotive remanufacturing standards to include the following systems but not exclusively to: air brake, engine, electrical equipment, motors, rotating equipment
  • Recommend product of service enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential.
  • Work with customers to develop potential solutions to their problems.
  • Resolves customer complaints and provides solutions to the issue.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Proven leadership with the ability to manage a workforce through growth and change cycles
  • Working knowledge of FRA and AAR rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Knowledge of locomotives and its systems and equipment and the ability to understand drawings and schematics
  • Extensive existing contacts in the rail and industrial business sector preferred
  • Action-oriented individual with a demonstrated ability to proactively combine superior interpersonal skills with strong technical acumen
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, resilience, and tact
  • Understanding of business financials, previous P&L management preferred
  • Comfortable managing deadlines and providing follow-up
  • Solid analytical skills
  • Customer oriented, open and professional business style communication skills (verbal and written, business emails, etc.) coupled with active listening skills
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to be a self- starter and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to speak effectively and comfortable making presentations before groups of internal and external stakeholders at different levels of operational management
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
  • Must be willing to travel >25%
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field such as Engineering, Marketing, Business or 10+ years of relevant railroad, remanufacturing, or service experience.
