Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer & Sr. VP of Business Development, the Director of Patient Care Services is accountable for planning, directing and evaluating activities of the Nursing and CNA Services for home patients and facilities (Nursing Home and ALFs).Oversees implementation of organizational values and goals, standards for clinical practice and the management and development of nursing personnel. Provides leadership and direction in all nursing matters to assure maximum quality care for patients and families. Collaborates with the CMO/Medical Director, Director of Social Workers and Chaplains and all members of the Senior Leadership team to implement initiatives related to process improvement, quality and regulatory compliance. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience that would provide required skills and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- Possession of an advanced degree in nursing (BSN or higher)
- Current licensure as an APRN in the State of Florida
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in hospice nursing care
- Hospice and Palliative Nursing Certification
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in advance administrative work, including supervisory, budget, and program development/operation.
- Current State of Florida driver's license
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:COMPLIANCE:
- Participate in detailed review of processes related to mandated clinical regulatory compliance.
- Responsible for performing a wide variety of activities pertaining to assuring compliance with operating procedures and regulatory requirements for Clinical Operations.
- Participate in departmental and/or corporate quality initiatives.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current and proposed laws, regulations and guidelines.
- Support the management of internal and external compliance monitoring of Gulfside Hospice operations.
- Review, provide feedback and identify areas for improvement in the nursing delivery of patient care.
- Participate in and support regulatory survey preparation and execution activities.
NURSING SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
- Establish guidelines for department operation/evaluation; prepare written policies and procedures for departmental operation/management purposes and reinforce Gulfside philosophy and objectives.
- Maintain knowledge or current issues in clinical and hospice care; identify and implement, as appropriate, progressive concepts within the department.
- Responsible for daily management and operation of Nursing and CNA services in Nursing Homes and ALFs.
- Monitor census/nursing acuity levels (nurse/patient ratio) on an ongoing basis with the appropriate management and supervisory personnel, to assure quality patient care and proper utilization of staff.
- Communicate management policy directives and goals to staff.
- Act as a resource person for reimbursement and patient care issues; evaluate all discharge/disputes with patients/families regarding Hospice care. Keep Chief Operating Officer informed of possible liability.
- Identify and make recommendations to COO regarding program changes/needs.
- Participate as a member of administrative staff, contributing to development and implementation of agency goals/objectives.
- Support all quality and compliance initiatives and ensure staff participation and adherence.
- Participate in community relations and seminars in the medical community (and community at large) in order to raise public consciousness of Develop partnership with nursing home and ALF leadership and staff.
- Pursue professional growth through academic and continuing education programs.
- Maintain membership in professional organizations commensurate with responsibilities and personal growth.
FINANCE:
- Monitor/manage Nursing Services department budget and designations of funds.
- Determine and communicate resources needed for the Nursing department to carry out its functions.
- Assist in identifying anticipated additional staffing positions for new fiscal year based on census and staffing rations for budgeting purposes.
- Daily monitoring of expenditure logs corresponding with the Nursing Services department.
- Through tracking tools, working with vendors and monitoring trends, identify cost saving areas and implement process to decrease expenditures.
ADMINISTRATIVE:
- Collaborate with the administrative staff, other department personnel and representatives of allied groups in planning services for patients.
- Establish and maintain an effective system of records and reports.
- Maintain good working relationship and frequent liaison with other department directors.
- Communicate regularly with the Chief Operating Officer and give input on all matters related to Nursing Services.
- Hold regular meetings with Nursing Services department managers individually and collectively.
- Encourage a collaborative model of patient care by providing opportunity for nursing personnel to plan with the other disciplines for the total needs of patients.
- Attend to patient/family complaints unresolved at lower levels.
- Support the department, revision, harmonization and implementation of GHS Operating Procedures.
STAFF SERVICES:
- Responsible for overseeing the screening, selection, evaluation, promotion, disciplinary actions and termination of Nursing Services department staff according to performance standards with designated supervisory personnel. Coordinate and delegate authority as necessary.
- Maintain and develop quality staff by supervision, training, evaluation and support of clinical mid-management staff, Clinical Care Managers (CCM).
- Supervise and develop Clinical Care Managers.
- Develop a mechanism for nursing staff to give input into clinical administration decisions.
