Director of Professional Services Job Summary:

The Director of Professional Services provides functional and administrative supervision and is responsible for leading, planning, managing, and directing all activities and programs for Pharmacy, Laboratory, Nutrition, and Radiology. The Director of Professional Service functions as a team builder by collaborating with the entire healthcare team. Actively participates in the dispensing of medication within the Pharmacy, establishes quality assurance protocols for the departments, educates staff regarding new and updated techniques, and maintains fiscal responsibility for each department. Serves as an innovative key leader who ensures accountability and follow-through by utilizing critical thinking skills to solve problems and provide support.

Director of Professional Services Essential Job Functions:

Leadership:

  • Oversee all operations of both the inpatient and retail pharmacies to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  • Oversees the operations of the Lab, Nutrition, and Radiology Departments to ensure compliance with all State and Federal regulation
  • Oversees Audits for all departments
  • Advances La Rabida in innovation by identifying improvement opportunities, strategic planning, and developing solutions consistent with evidence-based research and regulatory guidelines, i.e., Joint Commission, IDPH, CMS, etc.
  • Accountable for implementing and following through new initiatives, strategies, and improvement opportunities
  • Functions as a resource and provides support to leadership, patient care staff, medical staff, students, and others in the acquisition of knowledge and skills
  • Maintains employee relations and provides guidance and counseling as needed
  • Performs performance appraisals of pharmacy staff and Radiology and Laboratory managers.
  • Directs/coordinates department's clinical programs and monitors the same
  • Conducts meetings with staff to review new techniques, exchange information, review educational needs, etc.

Knowledge of the Healthcare Environment:

  • Strong focus on patient safety, quality, and compliance performance in conformance with effective operational, financial, and business development activities.
  • Actively participates in strategic planning in collaboration with the executive leadership team.
  • Demonstrates ability to see the broad picture, manage multiple variables, and utilize systems thinking.
  • Sets and monitors performance metrics in collaboration with executive leadership

Business Skills and Principles:

  • Accountable for department budgets
  • Assumes oversight of compliance with billing and payment regulations including but not limited to pre-authorizations, MCO's contracts, and CMS regulations
  • Demonstrates the ability to adjust to a rapidly changing environment. Analyzes trends and changes in the healthcare environment through literature review, QI, regulations, and outcome data.
  • Enhance operational effectiveness by emphasizing cost containment and high-quality patient care
  • Maintains a broad understanding of financial management by analyzing and forecasting the financial impact of the departments.

Communication and Relationship Management:

  • Develops and manages a team of high-performing staff by ensuring interdisciplinary planning, coordination, and service delivery
  • Facilitates the development of critical thinking and clinical judgment in team members through role modeling, teaching, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Represents the department on various committees including but not limited to Quality Management and Infection Control.
  • Reports to the Administration on the department's activities/accomplishments.

Pharmacy Dispensing:

  • Designs daily distribution systems for inpatient and outpatient pharmacies to provide the highest level of patient safety.
  • Oversee the keeping of appropriate patient and prescription records as dictated by federal and state authorities.
  • Participates in hands-on preparation of inpatient and outpatient IV and medication orders to whatever extent is necessary to maintain or augment an appropriate departmental workflow.
  • Supervises drug purchases and inventory control
  • Develops and oversees the Hospital Drug Formulary in conjunction with the Medical Staff.
  • Oversee technology assessment, implementation, revision and ongoing maintenance of information technology to manage the medication use
  • Designs daily distribution systems for inpatient and outpatient pharmacy that provides the highest level of patient safety.
  • Maintains operations of the department during associate time off
  • Co-Chairs the monthly Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee meetings
  • Provides oversight of the Antibiotic Stewardship program
  • Participates in drug use evaluation and other related duties
  • Provides drug information to hospital staff and customers

What we need from you:

Education: Pharm D. required M.B.A. preferred

Related Work Experience: Five (5) years hospital supervisor/managerial experience required; background in pediatric specialty required. Experience with both hospital inpatient and retail pharmacies is strongly preferred. Completion of residency or equivalent clinical experience.

Licensure/Certification: Illinois license and registration

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: In-depth knowledge of hospital computer systems; physical requirements- Should be physically able to get around in a fairly close environment; must be able to operate computers and general office type of equipment.
