Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume):Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Seven (7) years of full-time professional experience in a college or university undergraduate admissions office. Professional staff supervision experience. Proficiency with technology, office software and communication systems. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. (***Out-of-State Applicants, see Special Notes ).Preferred Qualifications: Experience in an admissions setting working with student recruitment. Experience in domestic territory management and development. Experience working with diverse populations. Experience and knowledge with higher education technology platforms, i.e., SLATE.Brief Description of Duties:The Director will work to promote, enhance, and facilitate domestic first year pathways and onboarding as well as provide leadership to the visits and experiences area. This position will work across the office in support of first year students and visits and experiences (all populations). This position will work on expanding recruitment and outreach across the state and nationally. This position will be front facing with partners to grow the reputation of SBU as a partner in the educational ecosystem and provide support for leadership when looking for connections and partnerships. Experience with the following skills: conflict resolution, collaboration, training, relationship building, program planning and implementation. Experience successfully building consensus and positive relationships among a large number of diverse colleagues, senior leadership and outside agencies with a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Documented ability accomplishing major tasks and assignments with and through others while promoting a positive and effective working environment. A high degree of professionalism, integrity, discretion and tact. Strategic and analytical thinking skills with an ability to negotiate, solve problems and make effective decisions. Duties:
  • Supervise and manage adherence to, creation and review of admission policies and processes for first year domestic students and visits and experiences; ensures the delivery of customer service to campus visitors.
  • Assist in integrating recruitment and visits and experiences staff into team that uses a strategic data informed practices to inform travel, outreach, visits and experiences resulting in application submission, yield, and increased campus visits and enhanced program experiences.
  • Track performance of territories, assess initiatives, and strategy development for recruitment and visits and experiences including intervention implementation based on admission partners insight and recommendations, i.e. Othot.
  • Collaborate with executive director on recruitment aspects related to primary areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains close, helpful, and collaborative relationships with campus and community constituents.
  • Consult on academic and student life matters with appropriate offices related to recruitment.
  • Provide expert advice and support to the development of new outreach programs and other academic and/or administrative initiatives.
  • Build strategy focused on name licensing and vendor management.
  • Responsible for accurate, timely, and effective reports and analysis.
  • Leverage admissions and recruitment technology and supervise the reporting, compilation, and distribution of data required by the Executive Director of Admissions and enrollment team and oversees development of statistical reports and analyses as requested.
  • Responsible for ensuring high schools and community-based organizations are engaged regularly including visits, college fairs, virtual and in person information sessions, and open office hours.
  • Oversee and grow relationships with school counselors, community-based organization advisors, and independent education consultants as well as college access organizations that may focus on targeted populations across the state of New York and in select national markets.
  • Utilize technology to track effectiveness and return of investment for travel.
  • Assist with creating new connections with partners to ensure pipeline to undergraduate programs.
  • Travel and represent the university at college fairs, high school visits, community college visits, and other outreach programs as needed.
  • Enhance campus visit and experiences for all undergraduate populations including in person, virtual, and off campus.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate staff member(s); hire staff and develop performance standards and perform annual evaluations for professional and support staff.
  • Develop and monitor staff training and development programs; has regular staff meetings to strengthen communication and performance.
  • Assist in cross training of office staff; complete special assignments or duties as assigned and engage in office and unit committees.
  • Engage in holistic evaluation of admissions applications to the university and make recommendations on applicants; populations may include domestic, transfer, international, honors and other special populations.
  • Identify and develop relationships with organizations that serve targeted populations to develop pipeline programs and partnerships; coordinate the relationships of partner programs (i.e. HOPE, STEP/CSTEP, Silver and Sillcox Scholars, Simons STEM, Native American Peoples Scholarship).
  • Serve as liaison with Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships with a focus on guiding development of knowledge building programs on affordability and value.
  • Work with off-site campus partners (SUNY Welcome Center) to facilitate programs.
  • Inform the creation and enhancement of updates to marketing publications, electronic publications, and websites, ensuring accuracy and timely updates that reflect admission policies and processes.
  • Responsible for regular evaluation of business processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness and compliance with regulations in all areas of office responsibility.
  • Manage the population specific budget, ensuring the integrity of financial information, state, and IFR accounts.
  • Responsible for accurate reconciliation of revenues, expenses, and allocations according to established policy.
  • Develop short- and long-term plans for the office regarding staffing, resources, space, and equipment related to targeted areas of responsibility.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.
Special Notes: This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. Early morning, evening, and weekend hours will be required throughout the year to support admission efforts. Resume/CV and cover letter should be included with the online application.
