POSITION SUMMARY:The primary responsibility of the Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) is to successfully oversee all therapy departmental functions in conjunction with the center's clinical and financial operational goals. The Director provides administrative supervision and requires extensive knowledge with management of all therapy clinicians. In this role, you are entrusted to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our residents at all times. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Resident Care Duties:
- Plan, develop and implement clinical operational strategy for overall quality, effective and financial viability
- Responsible for overall clinical quality, integrity, and service excellence for the therapy department
- Monitor rehabilitation assessment and treatment delivery for evidence based skill and medical necessity compliance in all rehab environments
- Develop and implement clinical rehab programs to meet client needs and promote new business opportunities
- Provide therapy assessments, as well as, develop and implement individualized treatment plans to increase client's independence and functioning
- Supervise discipline specific assistants, students, volunteers and support personnel in accordance to state requirements and professional standards
- Identify clinical need to make referrals to other disciplines to address comprehensive care needs of the client
- Communicate changes in resident's condition
- Participate in collaborative care conferences
- Participate in discharge and community mobility planning
- Prescribe necessary durable medical equipment to facilitate independence
- Provide accurate and timely billing records and supervise supporting clinical documentation
- Supervise and delegate screening rounds to assess for client needs and environmental safety
- Demonstrates compliance with all job description requirements of discipline specific job position
- Function as a staff therapist as caseload requires
Business Clinical Operations
- Recruit, hire, manage, direct and professionally develop therapy staff
- Assure all therapy clinicians are compliant with active licensure and demonstrate competency within professional standards of all therapy personnel
- Maintains efficient and effective department operation of all clinicians while enforcing compliance with all state, federal, and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols
- Business and financial operations management to exceed goals and expectations
- Demonstrates initiative and identifies opportunities to deal with issues including customer complaints, associate related issues including staffing, retention, recruitment, turnover, communication, performance management, including satisfaction surveys, regulatory compliance, QAPI, turnover, department meeting minutes
- Prepares reports regarding rehabilitation services, ie. utilization, compliance audits, performance improvement, service data, outcome data, productivity
- Maintains records pertinent of personnel and operation of the department
- Maintains consistency with policies and procedures with appropriate behavior, dress, attitude, attendance, confidentiality, professionalism, and reliability
- Communicates professionally, positively and works cooperatively with patients, families and other employees at all levels
- Assist in formulating budget, evaluate departmental performance and takes appropriate action to remain in budgetary guidelines
- Maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all state, federal, and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols
- Respond to family requests and concerns timely
- Coordinate and provide training with Nursing, Restorative Nursing, Dietary and other Care staff
- Assure resident abuse or neglect does not occur
- Provide education and training to patient, caregiver, and community partners
- Observe confidentiality and safeguards for all patient information
- Perform other duties as defined
Sales, Marketing, and Business Department
- Participate and represent in Rehabilitation marketing and clinical excellence events
- Participate in census development activities and promote business opportunities
- Represent community in activities as means of promoting the organization and mission
- Ensures therapy area is maintained in a clean and tour ready state at all times
- Assist with educational activities within center and with professional partners
- Participate in therapy student development and educational programs
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of current Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy practices and procedures including laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to setting and population served
- Understanding of payer reimbursement and strategy
- Knowledge of competency proficiency areas including patient care, program development, supervisory responsibilities, documentation and therapy software responsibilities, patient rights, and safety and sanitation
- Working knowledge computer and software applications used in job functions including Google, Microsoft office, and Rehab Optima Software preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- Clinical and supervisory experience in skilled nursing or post acute rehab environment
- Minimum three (3) years therapy related experience preferred
- Minimum two (2) years skilled nursing rehabilitation management preferred
EDUCATION
- Current, unencumbered, active Colorado licensed therapist or assistant in the field of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Language Pathologist (required)
- BSL/CPR as requested
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Moves intermittently during working hours
- Is subject to frequent interruptions
- Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
- Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, holidays and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
- Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
- Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses
- May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals
- Drives frequently in company or personal automobile
- Uses computer and cellular telephone frequently
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent squatting, twisting, and reaching;
- Frequent walking and standing
- Occasional resident handling, transferring and lifting from floor over 100 pounds
- Occasional crawling, climbing, and sitting; frequent repetitive pushing, pulling, and grasping up to 50 pounds
OTHER:
- Must maintain a valid, unrestricted Colorado driver's license
