JOB SUMMARYThe Director of Research Operations will report to the Associate Vice President of Academic and Clinical Operations and will work under minimal supervision. This role will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership in the areas of Basic, Translational and Clinical Research. The Director will partner with Clinical, Basic Science, and Center Department Administrators to ensure the successful implementation and alignment of research initiatives. The Director of Research Operations will play a pivotal role in advancing the institution's research mission by providing leadership, guidance, and support to research teams.

Lead efforts to analyze and recommend guidelines for the effective integration of research strategy, planning, and execution of projects that support Basic, Translational and Clinical Research at the institutional level.Serves as a partner and advisor on research initiatives supporting the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Academic Affairs and Medical Group and the Vice Provost, Dean of Basic Research.Provide shared services to multiple departments and support pre-award and post-award for large institutional awards and other critical awards.Partner with Academic Affairs leadership on research administration strategic initiatives.Support Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) in the oversight and management of research administrative functions assisting academic departments.Provide oversight of research Core operational support for over sixty cores, expand the centralized Core software systems for ordering and billing, and provide training, maintenance, and support for the Core software system.Partner with Basic Science and Center department Chairs, Directors, and administrative staff to streamline processes and procedures.Develop, coordinate, prepare, and help implement project plans to support research initiatives.Serve as a project director on one or more critical initiatives at any given time, guiding the project team, driving appropriate analyses, meeting project goals, managing timelines and working with the business owner to successfully implement new processes and metrics.Participate in research strategy and direction setting, identifying and prioritizing areas for improvement, assisting project teams with scope definition, and encouraging good change management practices.Serve as liaison with central offices and department administrators, maximizing alignment between research and business objectives.Provide support and guidance for the creation of new research departments or services in Academic Affairs.Act as a super user to provide oversight and resolution to research related issues.Assist with identifying enhancements/efficiencies by partnering with SPA, HR, Budget, Accounting, and Supply Chain.Enhance communication with the research community from Academic Affairs and Business Affairs.Performs other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
